“Mommy, I got something for you!” Cody ran the door after school. His face wore the biggest smile ever. He waved something above his head. “It’s a pen. But not any pen. It’s a lucky pen!” He handed me the pen , waiting for my reply.

I looked at the pen in my hand. There was special about it. It looked just like any other pen in my drawer. At that moment, I didn’t realize how special it was or I would treasure(珍爱) it.

I had made the decision to be a writer, but I was afraid of being by the publishers(出版社). The night before, I told my husband my when I didn’t think Cody was listening. “What if nobody likes my writing and I fail?” But Cody did what I said. Now he stood in front of me, watching me examine the pen. “You don’t have to be afraid now,” he said. “This pen will make your great and everyone will love them.”

Tears filled my eyes. Even if I sold the first book, I had everything I could ever need. And I felt already, just by having Cody in my life, especially when I heard what he did to get it. At lunch, Cody heard an older boy talking about having a lucky pen. He decided to get it for me. The boy wouldn’t agree but Cody didn’t . Finally, he traded his favorite model car and two army men--his mos important things for that pen. Just to make feel better.

I still have that pen, it’s long out of ink(墨水), in a cup on my desk. When a refusal letter arrives and I start feeling , I look at it and remember just how lucky I am. So I value(重视) that pen, it’s Cody who I treasure really in my life.

【题目】There was once a man called Mr. Flowers, and flowers were his only joy in life. He spent all his free time in one of his four glass-houses and grew flowers of every color, with long and difficult names, for competitions (比赛). He tried to grow a rose of a new color to win the silver cup (银杯) for the Rose of the Year.

Mr. Flowers’ glass-houses were very near to a middle school. Boys of around thirteen of age were often tempted (引诱) to throw a stone or two at one of Mr. Flowers’ glass-houses. So Mr. Flowers did his best to be in or near his glass-houses at the beginning and end of the school day.

But it was not always possible to be on watch at those times. Mr. Flowers had tried in many ways to protect his glass, but nothing that he had done had been useful. He had been to school to report to the headmaster; but this had not done any good. He had tried to drive away the boy that threw stones into his garden; but the boys could run faster than he could, and they laughed at him from far away. He had even picked up all the stones that he could find around his garden so that the boys would have nothing to throw; but they soon found others.

At last Mr. Flowers had a good idea. He put up a large notice (布告) made of good, strong wood some meters away from the glass-houses. On it he had written the words: DO NOT THROW STONES AT THIS NOTICE. After this, Mr. Flowers had no further trouble; the boys were much more tempted to throw stones at the notice than at the glass-houses.
