【题目】Would it surprise you to learn that, like animals, trees communicate with each other and pass on their wealth to the next generation—their young trees?

Professor Simard , forest ecologist( 生态学家) from the University of British Columbia, explains how trees are much more complex(复杂)than most of us ever imagined. Although Charles Darwin(达尔文) thought that trees are competing for survival of the fittest, Simard and her team have made a new discovery and showed just how wrong he was. In fact, the opposite is true: trees survive through their group work and support, passing around necessary nutrition (营养) like Nitrogen () and carbon "depending on who needs it".

Nitrogen and carbon are shared through miles of underground fungi (真菌) networks, This makes sure that all trees in the forest ecological system give and receive just the right amount to keep them all healthy. This hidden system works in a very similar way to the networks of neurons (神经元) in our brains, and when one tree is destroyed, it affects all.

Simard talks about "mother trees", These are usually the largest and oldest plants on which all other trees depend. These “Mother Trees” are connected to all the other trees in the forest by this network of fungi, and may manage the resources of the whole trees and plants in the forest. She explains how dying trees pass on the wealth to the next generation, transporting important minerals to young trees so they may continue to grow. When humans cut down "Mother Trees" without paying attention to these highly complex "tree societies" or the networks on which they feed, we are reducing the chances to save the whole forest.

"We didn't take any notice of it" Simard says sadly. "Mother trees move nutrition into the young trees before dying, but we never give them chance." If we could put across the message to the forestry industry, we could make a huge difference towards our environmental protection efforts for the future.

This morning we had a school trip to the Dashan Collection House, a building of two floors. It is open from 9: 00 am to 5: 00 pm. We took the school bus and arrived at 9: 00. When we entered the collection house, our eyes were caught by a collection of old photos of the town on the walls of the front hall. Those photos told us something about the history of the town. And then in the Art Room, we saw many pictures of the countryside. The colors of the flowers and trees are rich and bright. We all love the beauty of nature at once.

Then we went upstairs. On the left. there were over one hundred different clocks. The oldest clock was already more than two hundred years old. To my surprise, the clocks all worked well and they could tell the right time. It was then ten o’clock, and some clocks produced different beautiful sounds. It seemed to be a concert. How amazing

On the right there was also a stone collection. The stones were from all over the country. They were in different sizes, colors and shapes. Some looked like different kinds of animals. I really liked one stone that looked like a little monkey. It looked very nice.

The collections there were wonderful. So we stayed there until 11: 00 in the morning. I had a great time and really liked the school trip.

Everyone, rich or poor, can have happiness. You don’t need to think too much about those who are rich. Why? Because those who have big houses may often feel lonely and those who drive their cars to work may want to walk on country roads in their free time. In fact, happiness is always around you. When you are in trouble, your friends will come to help and this will surely make you happy; when you study hard at your lessons, you will get good grades and of course you will feel happy about it; when you are not feeling well, your parents will take good care of you and you will be happy when you are well again. All these are your happiness. When you are poor, you also can say you are happy because you may have something else that money can’t buy. When you have problems, say loudly that you are happy as you have more chances to challenge(挑战) yourself so that you can succeed in what you do and this may bring you happiness. Take every chance you get and you can be a happy and lucky person.

Do you always feel happy? In fact, all of us can have 1, no matter we are rich or poor. Maybe you think those who have big houses are happy, but do you know they don’t feel 2 often? They sometimes feel lonely. Happiness is always around you. Your friends will come to help you when you are in 3 and your parents will take care of you when you are not feeling 4. So, don’t be afraid of problems. Take every chance you get and you can be a happy and have a good 5.
