Mr White lived in a village but his office was in the town. Sometimes he went to work by bus and sometimes, when it rained, he drove there. He was friendly to others and they all liked him.
One day a new comer named Mr Black began to work in the office. Mr White was kind to him and told him what to do with the sticky(棘手的,困难的) business. The man thanked him very much.
Two or more months later Mr Black moved into a house, which was just next to Mr White. They were both happy and became good friends. One Saturday morning, Mr White was walking while his new friend was reading in the garden. He came up to him and they began to chat(聊天). He found Mr Black's book interesting and wanted to borrow it.
“You have enough time today, haven't you?” asked Mr Black.
“Yes,” answered Mr White.
“Well, then,” the man said, “I never lend anything to others. You can read it here.”
It made Mr White unhappy and he had to say goodbye to him. A few days later Mr Black came and said. “Excuse me, Mr White, could I borrow your lawn mower(剪草机), please?”
“Of course.” Said Mr White. “But you must use it in my garden.”
