Hot pot(火锅) is many Chinese people’s favorite and Liu Yang is one of them.

Three days ago, Liu Yang arrived in England. There he had three days of hamburgers, sandwiches and potatoes. Yesterday he was very excited when he heard that there was going to be a meal of hotpot to welcome the new students.

He went into the room and sat next to an American girl. To his surprise, he saw potatoes and bread in front of him. Where was the hot pot?

When she saw Liu Yang was very surprised, the American girl told him that hotpot is NOT hot pot. China has hot pot in two words but English hotpot is written in one word.

Hotpot is made from meat, potatoes and onions. People put it in the oven(烤箱) all day in a heavy pot and on a low heat. It is easy to cook.

Hotpot tastes fine. But Liu Yang still misses hot pot, two words!

The first thing the lion thinks about is, “I must be able to catch the ___2___antelope, or I will die of hunger .” So almost at the same time, the antelope and the lion get up and start running toward the rising sun.

I was still not sure what competition really meant. One day, I was taking part in an English-speaking competition. When I went to the stage, I saw other students looking at me kindly. I learned a lot from realizing this . Now I understand better about the world. Competition is important for us all.

Beggars are often seen sitting by the side of a street with heads bowed as people pass them by. Some ask people passing by for a small amount of money and some just sit and wait to be given money.

To solve the problem , another giving plan has been suggested. Ten blue money boxes will be placed in busy places such as the market and the railway station. It aims to encourage people not to give money directly to beggars but instead to give generously to local homeless people.

Supporters of this plan think it will be an effective way to solve the beggars’ alcohol and drug problems(酗酒和吸毒). But the police oppose the plan arguing that beggars who do not receive cash may turn to criminality(犯罪) to feed their addictions. The homeless charity “Crisis” said the success of any plan will depend on its style. They think that imaginative and positive(积极的) plans can help create local understanding and sympathy(同情心) instead of hardness. Most of the beggars dislike the plan because they think they will not get enough money from the boxes for their showers, food and clothes.

Begging is a big social problem both in developing and developed countries. Governments must play a big role in solving this problem. Training beggars to work and helping them to find appropriate jobs is one option. This is especially true for developing countries where many low-skill jobs exist.

The general community should also be educated to see beggars not as dirty and dangerous, but as peopl who need understanding and help.
