Oxfam opened the first charity shop in 1947. Now there are more than 7,000 charity shops in the UK. My favorite one was the Red Cross Shop. I could always find children’s books about history, art, math, and so on, all 10 to 20 pence each. They were really cheap.
Most of things in the charity shops were from the kind people. Every morning I could see bags of things outside the shops. Some people brought and put them there without waiting for thanks. In fact, 90% of the things in charity shops were from these kind people.
Every year, the charity shops raise more than 100 million pounds. All the money the shops get goes to the charity work. The money is for sick and poor children, homeless and disabled people.
If possible, let’s try our best to do something for charity together.
