　　As a young boy, Paul wanted to be a painter. When he told his parents. his father said,“I know that you like to paint. But we are farmers. We need you on the farm. 1 hope that you will not go away. I hope that you will stay with us on the farm. I will buy paper and paint for you.”

　　Paul did not want to paint on the farm. He did not like to paint animals like cats and dogs, cows and horses, chickens and ducks. But he stayed there to help his parents.

　　Paul was happy. He went to Paris to learn painting. At first, painting was too difficult for him. He had to work hard every day. The time was too short for him. His thoughts (思想) were not good enough (足够) for great pictures. People did not like his work and buy his pictures. At last he went back to the country. He was thirty-five years old then. He found new thoughts for his pictures in the country. He stayed there all his life. He began to paint pictures of farmers. The pictures were beautiful and people came to see him from the north, south, east and west.
