The Browns were very rich people. On Mrs Brown's birthday, her husband wanted to give her something special as a birthday present. So he bought a parrot and said to the shop assistant : “Please bring it to my house at 3 o'clock this afternoon. ”
The same day, Mrs Brown wanted a chicken for dinner. She telephoned the grocer b “Please bring a chicken at 4 o'clock this afternoon. ” Then she told the cook: “There's a bird coming this afternoon for tonight's dinner. Will you cook it please?”
The parrot arrived first.
At 6:30 in the evening the Browns had dinner.
“What's this?” Mr Brown asked the cook when the bird was on the table.
The cook told him.
“This is terrible,” said Mr Brown, “that bird was very expensive. It was able to speak five languages. ”
“Then why didn't it say something?” asked the cook.
