The North Pole is farther north than any other place on Earth. It is easy to find on a globe. It is where all the north and south lines come together at the top.

If you were standing on the North Pole, there would be only one way to go. No matter which way you turned, you would be going south. No place on Earth is north of the North Pole.

Even though it is called the North Pole, there is really no pole there. There is not even any land. Only thick ice covers the sea. It took many years to find the exact spot where the North Pole is. The first person to reach it was a black man, Matthew A. Henson.

After ten minutes he came back.
"Were they dark brown,   Italian shoes,   size 42?"he asked slowly.
"Yes!nsaid Terry,   excitedly.
"I haven't repaired them,”the shoe repairer said slowly. “You can take them tomorrow afternoon. ”
