9.We all know that a strong earthquake attacked Japan on March 11th,2011.A number of people died in the natural disaster. All the people around the world felt sad for it.An earthquake is a shaking of the ground caused by the sudden breaking of large parts of Earth's rocky outer shell(壳) and the sudden moving of Earth's rocky outer shell in opposite directions.Earthquakes are among the most powerful events on earth, and their results can be quite scary.A strong earthquake may send out energy 10,000times as great as that of the first atomic bomb(原子弹).Rock movements during an earthquake can make rivers change their course(河道).Earthquakes can cause great damage(破坏)and loss of life.Large earthquakes beneath(在…下方) the ocean can create great numbers of huge, harmful waves called tsunamis(海啸)that can get flood run for many miles.
Earthquakes almost never kill people directly.Instead, many deaths and hurts in earthquakes come from falling objects and the collapse(坍塌)of buildings, bridges, and other things.Fire coming from broken gas or power lines is another main danger during a quake. The force of an earthquake depends on how much rock breaks and how far it moves.Powerful earthquakes can shake the ground strongly for great distances.
Generally,a powerful earthquake occurs less than once every two years. At least 40 moderate(中等的)earthquakes cause damage so somewhere in the world each year.About 40,000 to 50,000 small earthquakes----large enough to be felt but not damaging----occur every year.
Nature cannot be overridden(藐视)!

解答 46.A. Generally,a powerful earthquake occurs less than once every two years.
We all know that a strong earthquake attacked Japan on March 11th,2011.A number of people died in the natural disaster.
An earthquake is a shaking of the ground caused by the sudden breaking of large parts of Earth's rocky outer shell(壳) and the sudden moving of Earth's rocky outer shell in opposite directions.
About 40,000 to 50,000 small earthquakes----large enough to be felt but not damaging----occur every year.
April 22marks the 45th World Earth Day,a day for us to celebrate Earth. This year, the theme of the day is"It's our turn to lead".It aims to push global leaders to take action on climate change.
Climate change is an important and lasting change of climate.Global warming has become the worst problem about climate. It makes sea levels rise.If sea levels carry on rising, some places may disappear under water in just a few dozen years. It may also cause other problems, such as the extinction of certain kinds of animals.
Many believe that global warming is caused by human activities:car exhaust emissions(尾气),burning of coal by factories and cutting down of trees.
Can we do anything about it?Sure.Everybody can do a little bit to protect Mother Earth. Here are some suggestions:
Change bulbs.
People produce electricity by using natural resources. So it helps to turn off lights, the television, and the computer when you stop using them. You can also ask your parents to change the light bulbs in your home to compact fluorescent light bulbs(节能灯泡).
Bike or walk to school.
Do you go to school by bus or by bike?If you bike, you are doing something good for Earth. If you live near your school, you can simply walk to school to save energy.
Wash the green way.
Do you help wash clothes at home? Then wash them in an energy-saving way.Never start your washing machine unless it is full of clothes.Dry your clothes the natural way by hanging them on a line rather than putting them in a dryer.
