Ladies and gentleman,

Welcome to Boston University on such a beautiful Friday night.

My name is Yujing Cai, and I am a graduate from the Master of Mathematical Finance program. I come from Nanjing, China, one of the oldest cities in the world. Right now, my family is sitting somewhere over there. 45. They travelled across half of the earth to attend their daughter’s graduation ceremony. And they are watching me giving a speech in a language they don’t understand. Therefore, I am tremendously honored to share my perspective of 6 years at the Questrom School of Business.

46. The thing I always enjoyed doing was looking at the different country flags in the hall. Sometimes my friends and I even have silly competitions going on to see who knew more flags and it often amazed me how many different cultures and nationalities are represented in our community.

In the past 6 years here. 47. 我很自豪见证了我们学校的成长。 from School of Management to Questrom School of Business, and that our community is growing stronger and better each year, and this couldn’t have happened without the effort of everyone here to share, to inspire, and to embrace each other.

Let’s now think about the future. 48. 没有人知道我们将会面临什么样的挑战。But we are sure that we will need a diverse(多样的) set of skills and knowledge. 49. And the most important of all is that we need an open mind to learn. That’s why we have been so lucky to be part of the Questrom community that cultivated such freedom of an open mind.

So, congratulations, class of 2017! For when you walk outside that door today, you are already equipped with one of the most critical skills to succeed in the future, the ability to embrace diversity. Thank you so much!

When I was 9 years old, I loved to go fishing with my dad. But the only thing that wasn’t very fun about it was that he could catch many fish while I could catch ______. I usually got pretty ______ and kept asking him why. He always answered, “Son, if you want to catch a fish, you have to think like a fish.” I remember being even more worried then, because I’m not a fish. I didn’t know ______ to think like a fish. Besides, how could what I think ______ what a fish does?

As I got a little older I began to ______ what my dad really meant. So, I read some books on fishes. And I ______ joined the local fishing club and started attending the monthly meetings. I learned that a fish is a cold-blooded animal and it is very sensitive(敏感的) to water ______. That’s why fish prefer shallow water to deep water because the shallow water is warmer. What’s more, water is usually ______ in direct sunlight than in the shade (阴凉处). The more I understood fish, the more I became good at finding and catching them.

When I grew up and entered the ______ world, I remember hearing my first boss say, “We all need to think like sales people.” But it didn’t completely come out. My dad never said, “You need to think like a fisherman.” ______ later, I learned to provide long-term services for people much older and richer than me. I understood that what we all need is to think more like customers. It’s really not an easy job.
