Dear Editor,

I¡¯m a high school student. One day, on my way to school I found that along the river bank in Zhaowang River Park, the road was badly destroyed and some color bricks had disappeared, which would affect people¡¯s going out. Perhaps these bricks were carried away by some people nearby and kept by themselves. I¡¯m very sorry about that.

Since the public facilities are often destroyed like that, I suggest that our government should repair the road as soon as possible and take some measures to protect these public facilities. And as for us students, whenever we find someone destroying our public facilities, we should make efforts to stop him or her in time. Only in this way can we have a more beautiful and comfortable city to live in.

¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿To Test Your Wings

"We have to let him try it, Lila," I said to my wife. "Can't you see that?"

"But how will he ________ on his own?"

"He'll make it."

"But he can't see, he's blind!"

"I know it."

Of course I knew it. I'm Andy's father, aren't I? But I also knew how much it hurt Lila to say that. It was years before I heard her accept it. She knew it and had been told it over and over by all the ________ at the hospitals we had taken Andy to when we were still hoping during the early years.

"Lila," I tried again, "he's nineteen years old. He's clever. He's ambitious. He's ________ -he believes in himself. He wants to try things on his own. We've given him what we can. We have to let him go."

"But why does he have to ________ a college halfway across the country?"

"Because he wants to test his wings."

"That's all very well, " she continued to protest (¿¹Òé), "but he cannot see. How do we know he can fly on his own?"

"I think he can," I said softly. "And we have to let him ________. He'll come back sometimes." We were both silent for a while.

"Remember Gertie, the bird we saved?" I asked.

"Yes," Lila nodded. "I remember Gertie."

"And we let her use her wings, didn't we?"

Lila ________ again.

"Even though she had broken her wing; even though you wanted to hold onto her; even though she was disabled too in a way, and we were ________ she might not make it, we still let her test her wings."

"Yes."

"And she did come back, didn't she? Not only that spring, but for several springs, and a couple of falls, too."

"But never to stay."

"No. Never to stay," I agreed. "And that's the ________ it is with children too, once they're grown and gone."

There were tears in Lila's eyes again, but her voice was firm (¼á¶¨µÄ) as she stood up.

"Let's go find Andy. We'll tell him he can go and test his wings."
