Great white sharks have become well known in a bad way, for being scary. 【1】 . However, you are more likely to be hit by lightning than attacked by a great white shark.

One reason why people don’t like great white sharks is that they are huge. They grow to be nearly 21 feet long and can weigh up to 5,000 pounds. That is about two cars long! But the size is not typical. Most great whites are smaller, about 10 to 15 feet long. 2 .

Great whites are called apex predators(捕食者)because they are at the top of the food chain. They have no predators and aren’t that picky about what they eat. Great whites are known to eat fish, squid, other sharks, otters, turtles, dolphins, whales, seals, and sea lions. 3 . Great whites also eat carrion, which is the remains of dead animals floating(漂浮)in the water.

4 . They have 3,000 teeth, and each is up to 3 inches long! Their very sharp teeth are shaped like triangles and have rough edges that tear into things. Great whites don’t even chew their food. They just swallow it down. 5 .

But, like other sharks, great whites don’t intentionally(主动地)eat or attack humans. So swim without fear.

A. That’s still longer than one car, though

B. Those last two kinds are their favourite food

C. Movies and popular stories make them scary

D. A big meal can satisfy a great white shark for about two months

E. Another reason why people fear great whites is their frightening teeth

请认真阅读下列短文,并根据所读内容在文章后面的图表里填入最恰当的单词。

Next to e-mail, the most popular activity on the net is chatting. And if you ask someone what kind of things they do most on the Internet, chances are they will answer that they like to chat. This seems especially true of the younger generation.

Chatting is like any other social interaction. We all know that if we go into a group of people at a party or at school… and start screaming or start asking everyone their age before we even say hello, we aren’t going to make many friends. Chat rooms are different. Below are some tips that will make your chat experience friendly and fun!

Walking into a room and demanding age or sex is the most common mistake a new chatter makes. Most regular chatters will ignore the question and you. In a community such as Youth Tech you will usually find people of all ages and backgrounds. That is the fantastic thing about online chatting. Don’t limit yourself. Talk to everyone in the room equally. You will soon know who shares your interests and who doesn’t. If you prefer a one-on-one type of online friendship, then maybe you’d better look for a pal.

Shy? Lots of people feel shy when they enter a chat room where everyone seems to know everyone else except him. It’s really easy to feel left out. The best way to lose that feeling is to make yourself feel that you are not a stranger. If you enter the room and say “Hello, everyone! My name〈nickname here〉and I’m new.” You will find that there are normally at least a couple of extra friendly people that will be happy to help you become a part of it all.

Basically the best way to have a good chat experience is to be yourself and friendly. Try to join in the conversations going on and don’t be afraid to ask for help. Do remember, however, not everyone is going to be nice and friendly. The same as at school, there are also going to be a few people that are rude and just make you feel rotten. The best thing to do is just ignore them. Arguing with them will just make it worse. Show that you are better than they are by just refusing to let them get to you.

【题目】Perhaps the only test score that I remember is the 55 I got when I was in high school.

The test was the final for a course. I remember waiting anxiously as my teacher Mr. Right handed out our papers one after another. It was a rather test. I heard my classmates groaning (叹息), and I could tell by the groans that the scores weren’t looking good.

Mr. Right put my paper on my desk. There in big red numbers, circled to draw attention , was my score, 55! I lowered my head, and covered the score up quickly. A 55 is not something that you wanted your classmates to see.“The scores were not very good, none of you 7 ,” Mr Right said. “The highest score in the class was a 55.”

A 55. That’s me! my sad look didn’t look so bad. I had the highest score. I felt a lot better.

I walked home alone that day with the low but high score. My mother knew that I had a big test that day and asked me as soon as I got home, “How did you do in your test?” “I got 55,” I said. A frown(皱眉) now stood on my mother’s face. I knew I had to immediately. “But Mum, I had the highest score in the class,” I proudly stated (陈述). I thought that explanation would make a difference. “You failed!!” my mother replied. “But it’s the highest!” I insisted. “I don’t care what scores others had, you failed. What matters is what you /span>do!” my mother firmly (坚定地) said.

For years, my mother was in that way. It didn’t matter what others did, it only mattered what I did and that I did it excellently.

We often don’t understand the of good parents until we ourselves stand in the parents’ shoes. My mother’s words have carried me throughout life.
