Every year, there are many people going home by long-distance buses during the Spring Festival and the Tomb-sweeping Day . There are more walkers on their way home or to work on the roads. So there are more and more traffic accidents on the roads. Thanks to the efforts of the traffic police, it is said that this year the number of traffic accidents across China was 25.2 percent fewer than the year of 2018 during the three-day Tomb-sweeping Day.

Tomb-sweeping Day, also known as Qingming Festival. It is an important occasion for Chinese to honor their ancestors(祖先). Most people go home in memory of(纪念)their ancestors on that day. About 9.78 million Chinese visited cemeteries to honor their ancestors or relatives during the holiday. A few people also spent the three-day holiday on leisure trains. So transportation safety is a big problem. On the other hand, it is said that Chinese have made 112 million trips during the holiday, up 10.9 percent from last year’s holiday. For the traffic accidents, some people lost their lives. This year, traffic accidents caused 10 deaths during the three-day Tomb-sweeping Day. The fewer traffic accidents are all from the efforts of the police and our government. With the development of society and the government’s efforts, I believe everything will change better.

There are more walkers on their way home or to work on the roads. So there are more and more traffic accidents on the roads.

根据文中it is said that this year the number of traffic accidents across China was 25.2 percent fewer than the year of 2018 during the three-day Tomb-sweeping Day.

About 9.78 million Chinese visited cemeteries to honor their ancestors or relatives during the holiday.

Tomb-sweeping Day, also known as Qingming Festival. Most people go home in memory of(纪念)their ancestors on that day. On the other hand, it is said that Chinese have made 112 million trips during the holiday, up 10.9 percent from last year’s holiday. This year, traffic accidents caused 10 deaths during the three-day Tomb-sweeping Day. The fewer traffic accidents are all from the efforts of the police and our government.

In the early 1960s, black people and white people in the US could not attend the same schools, sit next to each other on buses, or even use the same water fountains

Those laws no longer exist, thanks to the civil rights movement People stood up and asked for a change in the laws.

On Aug 28, 1963, the civil rights movement reached its height with a march (游行) in Washington, D.C. It attracted around 250,000 people to the Lincoln Memorial At the march, Martin Luther King J. made his famous I Have a Dream speech. In it, he said: “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content (内容) of their character.” Those words remain famous to this day.

After the march, King and other civil rights leaders met with US President John F. Kennedy and vice—president Lyndon B. Johnson at the White House.

In 1964, following the assassination (刺杀) of Kennedy, president Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act into law. The law gave all Americans equal rights in working, voting (选举) and the use of public facilities (设施).

Since the march in Washington, 50 years has passed. Much progress has been made. Barack Obama became the first African—American president in 2009, and his second term ended in 2016. But there is still work to be done.

How much do you know about Earth-the planet that we live on? Our knowledge of Earth has been developing since ancient times. However, many puzzles about Earth remain unsolved. Live Science has published a list of the eight biggest mysteries about Earth. Let's look at some of them.

Where did water come from?

When it first came into being 4.5 billion years ago, Earth was a dry rock. So where did all of our water come from? Scientists think that it might have arrived in the form of ice by an asteroid(小行星) from outer space that hit our planet. But this theory has not been confirmed because there is very little related evidence(相关证据)to be studied.

What's in the core(地核)?

Scientists used to study meteorites(陨石)as small examples of Earth, believing that Earth's core was made of iron and nickel(). However, a later study in the 1950s proved this way to be wrong because it found that Earth would be too light to provide gravity if its core contained only iron and nickel. Today, scientists continue to bring forward different theories, but none have been confirmed.

How was the Moon born?

Scientists have found that the chemical compositions(成分)of Earth and the Moon are very similar. That suggests that the Moon actually came from Earth. For example, it could be a piece of Earth that separated when Earth hit another planet. It is also possible that when Earth first came into being, it spun(旋转)very fast and threw off enough molten(熔化的)rock to later from the Moon.

1What's the story mainly about?

A.How Earth came into being.B.Where Earth's water came from.

C.How the Moon was formed.D.Unexplained mysteries about Earth.

2What do we know about where water may come from?

A.Earth's water may come from ice that melted 4.5 billion years ago.

B.Earth's water may come from a small planet that hit Earth.

C.We don't know where water came from.

D.There is lots of evidence that tells us where water came from.

3What does the underlined phrase "bring forward" in Paragraph 5 probably mean?

A.Check.B.Raise.C.Improve.D.Receive.

4Which of the following is TURE according to the passage?

A.Scientists believed Earth's core was made of meteorites.

B.A study in the 1950s proved that Earth's core is made of iron and nickel.

C.The Moon and Earth are made of similar materials.

D.Three possibilities of where the Moon came from are mentioned.
