But a new research has 2 that taking notes by hand is in fact better for long-term memory.
In this research, students were asked to listen to a teacher. Some took notes by typing on a laptop. The 3 took notes by writing them down. Then they were given a test. Both groups got almost the same result in 4 the facts. But students who typed their notes did worse on conceptual (需要理解的) questions.
Why is it like this? The answer is that writing by hand is slow,5 it gives the students more time to think about the questions they don't understand. They are 6 to write down the main points. “This leads to a deeper understanding ,” say the scientists.
However, the students typing notes on a laptop usually just write down what the 7 says word for word in class. Although they can write more notes, they just type without really thinking 8 what they are typing. “This usually leads to mindless transcription (抄录) ”,say the scientists.
So if you want to remember something better, write it by hand!

Ⅲ.短文还原(2014 •江西抚州)
Moving Out,Moving Back In the countries all over the world,a number of people are leaving the countryside to find jobs in the cities. They leave because the countryside is much poorer than the city, and often there isn’t much work there. Services such as hospitals and transport are usually much better in cities than they are in the country. 1 But in the big cities of Europe and America—London,Pairs,New York, people are moving out of the city. These are usually families who have some money, and want to live a quieter life. They are tired of the noise, the dirt of the city, tired of the crowded streets, crowded trains and buses. 2 They want a house with a garden, and clean air that isn’t polluted.
So they move out. Some don't go very far, just a little away out of the city,to the towns near the cities.3 There are sheep and cows and green fields. There, they start new lives and try to make new friends.
4 After two or three years, many people who have done this feel that it was a big mistake. They don't make as much money as before and there isn’t much to do. The people there are very different and aren’t always very friendly. 5 “It's wonderful to see crowds in the streets and cinema lights ,” they say. “I'm so glad I'm back in the city!”
A. However, not all of them are happy. B. They don't want to sit in traffic any more. C. Other people move to the real countryside. D. As a result, many people move back to the city. E. They hope that their lives will improve in the city. |
