People read books less often these days. With the invention of radio, television and most recently, the Internet and computer games, it seems that reading books is no longer a popular activity. However, I believe that books are still an important part of our lives.

Books offer the outstanding wealth of learning and at a much lower price than taking a course. Books can make people much cleverer, because heavy readers have greater knowledge of how things work and who or what people are.

Everything in today's society requires reading. Imagine trying to do something as simple as reading the directions on a medicine bottle without good reading skills. Someone may not understand them and become very sick or even die.Even something as simple as walking or driving through the city could as become very dangerous without enough reading. Some people say that reading is a waste of time and we can do better things with our time. Even if we don't read books, we still read every day, and reading books can strengthen (加强) our reading abilities. Reading is one of the greatest things we can do in our spare time. With a book, you can travel anywhere you want, do anything you want, and talk to anyone you want. Reading is very important in our lives. So I think people should read books.

In America, the school life is not easy for us students. There are so many rules we have to follow. When we start school, we get a rule book. There are always teachers looking out for people who are breaking the rules and perfects are everywhere too.

The most rules are in the classroom and in the hallways. For example, you can’t run or dance around in the hallways. Only up to three people can walk abreast in a hallway. We can’t put our bags everywhere in the hallways.

You can’t eat or drink in the classroom or the hallways. Professors watch you. They can give out duty slips (cleaning the dining hall for about 2 hours).

If you make mistakes, you will get a detention. You may have to do some work for school. A detention is the most painful. You have to do a lot of tiring and boring things.

There are rules for students out of school as well. Boys should not buy take-away food in the street if they wear the school uniforms. The school also expects good behavior on public transport and in public places.
