Do you know what Oscar is? When did it start? Maybe you can find the background of the awards in the following passage.
The awards started in 1929. Their full title is “The Academy of Motion Picture
Arts and Sciences Awards”. The Academy is a group of people who have worked in the film industry for many years. They decide who will receive the awards. The awards are often referred to as the “Oscar”. This is a nickname given to the awards by a lady called Margaret Herrick. She was once the director of the Academy and she once said that the little gold statue reminded her of her uncle Oscar!
The Oscar is always an exciting event. Each year, at least one unusual thing happens. When the Italian actor and dir

In 1987, Roberto Benigni won the award for best director for a film about the last emperor of China. Since then, Chinese film and actors have started to make an impact at the award. We expect to see more awards for Chinese film in the near fut

A solar-powered(太阳能动力的) plane has passed an important test on the way to travel around the world. The plane took off from an airport in Switzerland at 45km an hour. it slowly rose above the fields and into the sky. During the 90-minute flight, the plane did several turns. It climbed nearly 1.6km above the countryside.
“There has never been an airplane of that kind that could fly – never an airplane so big, so light, using so little energy,” said Bertrand Piccard, a leader of the project.
Engineers plan to test a night light soon. They plan to travel around the world in that plane in 2012. “We want to fly it day and night without fuel,” Piccard said.
Piccard and pilot Andre Borschberg will take the plane around the world. They will make a few stops to change places and rest after a long time in the air – and to show off their aircraft.
The plane flies at 70 kilometers per hour on average. That is faster than a bike. The pilots will keep the plane in the air for up to five days at a time.
