We learn more from failure

As a student, I have experienced a lot of failures.

One day last term, it was my turn to give a speech in the English class. Because my pronunciation was poor, it was no surprise that I failed. After that, my English teacher encouraged me to try harder, and told me some useful ways which could make my pronunciation better. With her help, I started to practice hard. Later, I told the class that I would give another speech and I succeeded.

Thanks to that failure, I could see where my problem was, and where I should do better to improve myself. From this point of view we can see failure is not a bad thing, it is the mother of success!

【题目】 I have just been to the opening ceremony for a new exhibition of early French photographs. Some of them are really beautiful. A French photographer made some very interesting comments about them. Then I went to look at some of my favorite exhibits: a photograph by Lewis Carroll, who wrote the Alice series and also loved cameras and photography, and the Baker’s Boy, a very interesting picture from the 1860s.

There is so much to see. And the museum has three historic firsts: the world’s first negative(底片), the first moving picture and the first shots taken for television.

Before I show you around, let me just tell you something about the museum. The National Museum of Photography, Film and Television was first set up in 1983. We have three million different items in different categories(类别). We store a lot of our collection in special rooms to keep it safe, but there is still a lot to see. We are the most visited museum in the UK outside London. We attract over a million visitors a year, and most of them report that they really enjoyed their visits.

Take the train. It’s very easy. Just go through the city centre square outside the museum and it’s a three-minute walk to Forster Square Station. By the way, before you leave, take a look at the gift shop. It’s rather special. It’s rather great. The kids are loving it.

There will soon be a new attraction here. We will open Experience TV. It will be really interactive. Visitors will be able to use the equipment and go in front of the camera to read the news or present the weather. It will be great fun and very educational.

We have many treasures. There is the Talbot Collection. He was one of the inventors of photography and we have his pictures, letters and notebooks. And we have all the photos taken for a newspaper which was popular from 1912 until the 1960s. Researchers keep on finding new things in it.
