My name is Jackson. I remember almost everything I read. But I don’t like to speak in class. When Mr. Knoll asked us to do an oral (口头的) book report, the idea of having my classmates looking at me filled me with nervousness.
But since Mr. Knoll gave us a month to get the report ready, I thought I had plenty of time.
Finally, I chose Fire-Hunter by Jim Kjelgaard. I read the first few pages and then I threw it away. Then the book got buried in the clutter (杂物) in my room.
When I realized the date of the book report was only a week away, I was in a fear. I raced home and found the book. Trembling (颤抖), I turned to the book and discovered there were 218 pages! I read like crazy.
The last day came. When Mr. Knoll called on me to give my report. I still had eighty pages to go. The class looked sorry for me when I pulled myself forward. They could see my fear. “My book is Fire-Hunter, by Jim Kjelgaard,” I began slowly. Then I started to tell the story and the class seemed interested. To my surprise, I discovered I was enjoying myself. However, l had no idea how the book ended. I really didn’t know what caused me to act in that way. I made up the rest of the story later.
The class loved it, and flapped their hands as I finished.
At break time, Mr. Knoll called me over. “You know, Jackson, I don’t really remember the book ending that way.” I lowered my head.
“You told a pretty good story,” he continued. “The project was an oral book report. You did a great job on the oral part.”
“Uh, thanks.” I said.
“When you actually finish Fire-Hunter, please come to me and give me the book report.”
“Yes, I will,” I said. I knew I would make a REAL book report.

Question: are you punctual (守时的)? Based on December 3, 2019 by Billy |
I’m punctual in my work life, but not in my personal life, However, it’s OK in my country. We, Brazilians, are always late. If the party is at 8, everyone shows up at 10 and everyone, including the host is happy that we are on time. Cheers! Lisa, Brazil |
I am a Japanese working in Colombia. It is good manners to arrive a little late for a party in Colombia, which I have never ever understood. I always try to be early for everything, or I consider it impolite. Mike, Japan |
For a meeting on business, I always make sure I am on time. Once I had a friend who was always late for every meeting. If we made it sure at 9 and it was a 45-minute trip for her, then she would arrive at 9:45. I totally understand her, but could not stand the unpunctuality. Bud, Germany |
