The widespread number of food scandals(丑闻)in China is making many people pause before they put their chopsticks in their mouths. They are wondering if the food they are eating is clean, healthy and nutritious(营养) or does it contain(包含) something harmful that will cause disease?
Most of the food we eat today is processed food(加工食品).That means the foods we buy in stores and supermarkets, especially packaged foods, are prepared in factories.Chemicals are added to the foods in these factories to make them look better, taste better and last longer on the shelf. The chemicals are supposed to be harmless and there are laws that regulate(控制) which chemicals can and cannot be used.Unfortunately, some producers do not obey the laws.
A producer of steamed buns(馒头)in Zhejiang Province was recently discovered to be breaking the law.He was adding yellow dye and other banned chemicals to the buns.He was also taking old buns and using them to make new buns. Most of the buns were sold to schools and eaten by students…like you!
Why did he do it? Why did he break the law and endanger people’s health? The answer is simple:he wanted to make more money. It was a moral failing, and this is at the heart of the food scandals in China.Too many people focus on making money and not on the effects their actions can have on others.

Playing is serious business for children. In fact, it’s what they do best! Ask them why they do it, and kids will probably say, “Because it’s fun!” But it’s much more than that. It’s also good for them.
Studies show that from birth babies begin learning through playing. They use their five senses to get to know their new world. Touching allows them to discover how different things feel. Brightly colored toys and clothing help develop a baby’s sense of sight.
When small children choose which toy to play with, they begin developing their abilities in making decisions. Children love toys that allow them to use their imagination. Sometimes an empty box is more fun than a high-tech toy. That’s because a box can become anything a child imagines it to be.
Crayons, paints and Ply-Doh(彩色塑泥)are also good because they allow children to create. Traditional building blocks teach important pre-math skills like problem-solving.
Playing doesn’t become any less important once children start school. __*___. Kids learn how to share, take turns and play by the rules.

People are busy working every day, so they do not have enough time to do exercises. As a result, many people become too fat or too thin. To keep our bodies healthy, we have to do exercises every day.
There are many kinds of exercises. Bending (弯腰) and stretching (伸展) helps us move easily. Before we play ball games or swim, it is better for us to do bending and stretching exercises first. This kind of exercise is sometimes called warm-up exercise. Running is also a good exercise. If we cannot run fast, we can Jog. Jogging means running slowly. More and more Chinese people care for their own health. I come from England. I came to China five years ago. I began to learn cooking Chinese food from my father. When I was fifteen, I began to help my mother in the kitchen. My father is a very famous cook in Beijing. So he taught me many things about cooking. In the past three years, I never stopped learning cooking. When I saw a book called The disease eating out can be gone back again by eating (《把吃出来的病再吃回去》), I began studying the book. .The writer of the book is Zhang Wuben. He said he was a famous nutritionist (营养师)and well-known traditional Chinese doctor. He asked the people to eat eggplant (茄子)and gram (绿豆). In China, Zhang Wuben's book has been popular in the past few years.
My father was invited to talk about the book in May, 2010. A large number of Chinese people believe they should eat eggplant and gram to be healthy. I have visited a lot of Chinese restaurants in Beijing and studied hundreds of restaurant menus. I talked to lots of doctors about eating and nutrition (营养). They thought that Zhang Wuben's words violated the science. He told a lie. The fact is that it's important for us to eat a balanced diet and not just to eat eggplant and gram.

More and more people around the world are joining in dangerous sports. Some people climbed the highest mountains; some traveled into unknown parts of the world; some sailed small boats across the largest sea. Now some people begin to look for new excitement.
Bungee jumping (蹦极) and motorcycle racing (摩托车赛) are quite dangerous sports. Bungee jumping only lasts a few minutes or even seconds. You jump from a high place, 200 meters above the ground, and there is a rubber band (橡胶带子) tied to your legs. When you jump down, the rubber band pulls you up. About 2,000,000 people around the world have tried bungee jumping.
Why do people join in these dangerous sports? Some scientists say that it is because modern life has become safe and it is not interesting. In the past, people lived in danger. They had to go out and look for food, and life was like a fight but was interesting.
Many people think that there is little excitement in life. They live and work in safe places, buy food in shops, and there are doctors and hospitals to look after them if they become ill.

The keys to reaching or staying at a healthy weight are regular exercise and good eating habits. Teens should get 60 minutes or more of physical activity a day. Note the word “activity”. As long as you’re getting your body moving, it doesn’t have to mean doing difficult exercise or going to the sports hall every day. All that matters is that each week you get the right balance of activity, including aerobics (有氧运动), strength building, and flexibility (柔韧) exercise. Make exercise a habit by arranging some time every day.
On days when you have soccer practice or an aerobics class, you may have no trouble exercising for an hour or more. But most of us are busy, and 60 minutes a day for exercise seems like a lot of time. The good news is that it’s OK to divide it into shorter exercise breaks throughout the day.
Just as you might have a healthy snack to stop yourself from getting hungry, exercise snacks can keep energy levels high. So get up 15 minutes early and do some stretching (伸展) activity. Walk fast or run slowly for 15 minutes after lunch. Do the same thing after school — or walk or bike home. Add to that taking the stairs, PE class, and walking between classes during the day, and you’ve probably reached your 60 minutes.
Here are five simple ways to make an exercise lifestyle change:
