American kids are busy, too. The US public schools don't have the classes kids need to get into college. If they want to go to college, they should take additional (额外的) classes. And if a kid wants to major in music or art,he has to take music or art classes on the weekend,so he has to forget about having free time.

“My middle school had a high-school-level algebra (代数) class, but I could go only with special permission from the teacher, and I had to come very early,in the morning: 6:3〇! Every morning,in the dark, before the buses started running, eight of us met in the cold classroom to learn algebra. We had no choice! We wanted to go to universities."

“The next year,I did the same thing. In the morning I took a special, early,Spanish conversation class. It's hard to speak a new language after you’ve gotten out of bed. I also took a biology class at school, but there was no time during the day to do experiments,so I did them at night. Often,I would eat all three meals at school. Then,of course,go home to do my homework! In winter,it seemed that I never saw the light of day. At university,I get to see the sun shine again ,” Jack,a US college student, recalled.
