12.In some science fiction movies, evil robots refuse to die,no matter how hard people fight back.
Now science fiction has become science fact. For the first time, scientists have made a robot that can take a beating and keep on going.Scientists from Cornell University made the robot, which looks like a spider with four legs.
Until now, even the most advanced robot was almost certain to break down when it was damaged. That is because its computer inside simply doesn't know how to make the machine work after its shape has changed.
To deal with this problem, the scientists put eight motors(发动机) and two sensors (传感器) that read how the machine is working. They all give signals to the machine's software.Using this information, the computer can then figure out the machine's shape at any moment.
The new technology is a big advance in robot-making,scientists say,and it's far from scary. It may someday help scientists create better artificial(人造的) arms and legs and give new freedom to people who lose them.It might also help scientists understand how people and animals figure out their own sense of place in space.
"It has been difficult to design robots that can work well when the environment changes or when it's damaged,"says Olaf Sporns of Indiana University in US."With this work,we are nearer to solving this problem."

Until now, even the most advanced (先进的) robot was almost certain to break down when it was damaged.
For the first time, scientists have made a robot that can take a beating (挨打) and keep on going.
It may someday help scientists create better artificial (假的) arms and legs 描述,可知这个人称代词指代的是前文提到的假肢,故选C.
39.C,推理判断题,文中提到and two sensors (传感器) that read how the machine is working.

7.Can you write down a Chinese word being read to you?Sometimes it can be difficult when you find the word is not included in most dictionaries.
Lu Jialei,14,from Hangzhou Foreign Language School,won the CCTV Chinese Character (汉字) Spelling Contest on Oct 18th,2013.About 160people competed.The host read a word to the contestant,explained its meaning and gave sample sentences.The contestant was required to write down the word.

"When others paid attention to the plot of a story,she looked at how authors use words and sentences to express themselves,"said Su Yunsheng,Lu's Chinese teacher.Su is happy to see students like Lu find the beauty of Chinese language.
"Besides using something Chinese and having Chinese traditional festivals, learning to write Chinese characters is also an important part of inheriting (传承) Chinese culture,"said Su.

17.Many people like to have pets at home,but in fact,they are not for everyone.Because they make extra work,cost money and are a responsibility (责任) for 365days a year.
Pets such as dogs and cats bring in mud (泥土) and leave hairs on the floor and furniture.Young dogs often destroy things.So responsibility is needed if you want to have a pet.If you are often on business or go out,then you should make plans for them first.If not,you'd better not have one.You also need to check how much money you can spend on a pet.Because what the pets eat and drink,even medical care can cost lots of money.
Many parents decide to get a pet because the children want one,but pets are not toys for fun.Some parents expect their children to look after their pets themselves,but such responsibility should never be placed on young children.You can encourage them to help,but when it is not the things that they must do,they will feel bored.
Children who watch their parents feeding the cat,walking the dog,going to the vet (兽医) and so on,will understand that this is all parts of normal family life-caring for each other.In fact,it is the same care that they themselves receive from their parents.This is the most basic lesson which children can begin to learn from their earliest days.By watching the family pets receiving love and care,they are learning a valuable lesson.
So when it comes to making a decision-to have or not have a pet-remember that the person who will do most of the work and who must take the responsibility for that pet is YOU.Think about it carefully.

70.Which of the following is NOT the writer's idea?A
A.Parents ask their children to look after the pets.
