【题目】 A jobless man applied(申请)for the position of “office boy” at Microsoft, The HR manager interviewed him and then watched him cleaning the floor as a test.

“You are employed,” he said. “Give me your e-mail address and I’ll send you the application form to fill in, as well as the date when you may start.”

The man replied, “But I don't have a computer or an e-mail.”

“I’m sorry,” said the HR manager, “If you don't have an e-mail, that mean you do not exist. And the one who doesn't exist cannot have the job.”

The man left with no hope at all. He didn't know what to do. With only $10 in his pocket, he decided to go to the supermarket and buy 10kg tomatoes. He then sold the tomatoes from door to door . In less than two hours, he succeeded in making his money double. He repeated the operation three times, and returned home with $60.

The man realized that he could survive in this way, and started earlier and returned late.

Thus, his money doubled or tripled every day. Shortly, he bought a cart, then a truck and then he had his own fleet to send food . Five years later, he became one of the biggest food sellers in The US.

He started to plan his family's future, so he called an insurance broker (保险经纪人)to have a discussion. When the conversation was over, the broker asked him for his e-mail. The man replied again,“I don't have an e-mail.”

The broker answered in surprise, “You don't have an e-mail, and yet have succeeded building an empire. Can you imagine what you could have been if you had had an e-mail?”

【题目】 What do you use to unlock your cellphone? A password? A fingerprint? Or simply a glance (一瞥)?

On Sept 12, 2017, Apple introduced its iPhone X, which has an eye-catching feature Face ID.

With Face ID, you can unlock your new iPhone by just looking at it. It is powered by a camera system TrueDepth in the front of the iPhone X.

When the camera system sees a person’s face, it uses 30,000 unseen dots () to “map” (勾画) the shape and outline of the face. A model of the face will then be created and stored in the phone.

The next time the person looks at the iPhone X, the same dots are mapped onto his or her face and compared to the stored model. If the two match, then the phone unlocks. This happens in less than a second.

Apple says the system is smart. If you change your hairstyle, put on sunglasses or makeup, or use the phone in the dark, Face ID still works.

Although the technology sounds amazing, there are still concerns. For example, will Face ID work for twins? What if someone uses a photo in front of the iPhone X?

According to Apple, the chance of others to unlock your iPhone X using Face ID is one in a million. Face ID can tell the difference between twins, but the error rating (出错率) rises.

Apple also emphasizes (强调) that Face ID is smart enough only to work when you want it to. It only unlocks when you open your eyes and stare at(盯住) it. So the phone won’t unlock if you are just glancing at the phone to know the time. It won’t work either if someone puts the phone at your sleeping face or your photo.
