The size and shape of your ears show your character more than any other parts of the face. Other parts of the face change shape as we get older, but ears do not change their shape. They only change in size.
Reading people’s character from their ears is an old science. In very old times people thought that a person with big ears had a good and generous character. They thought that a person with pale (nearly white), small ears was dangerous. They also thought that the shape of the ear showed whether a person was musical or not. Today, too, many people believe that the size and the shape of the ear help you know if a person is musical.
Ears are all different, and each characteristic has a meaning. Next time when you look at a person, see if his ears are large or small. Look at the lobes( the lowest part of the ear). Are they attached(连着) to the face? Ears that are always red mean a person may easily get angry, or he/she just has high blood pressure(高血压). Ears that are always cold and pale mean a person has a nervous character. And a big inside hole of the ear means a person is musical.

A. red ears B. big ears C. small ears D. pale ears
2 The passage is mainly about ___________.

Our nearest neighbor is the moon. In the sky, the moon and the sun seem to be of the same size because the moon is much nearer.
The moon makes the tides—the changes in the level of the sea. The moon and the sun together pull the sea. In some parts of the world, the difference between * high tide’ (when the sea is very near to the land) and ’ low tide’ (when the sea is far away from the land) is very big. This is very important for ships.
The moon is very different from the Earth. Gravity on the moon is six times weaker than that on the Earth. There isn’t any air. During the day, it is very, very hot but at night it is very, very cold. Nothing can live on the moon.
If the moon goes between the Earth and the sun, we have an eclipse of the sun(日食) . The moon stops the light from the sun and we have night in the day.
If the Earth goes between the moon and the sun, we have an eclipse of the moon. The moon goes into the shadow( 影子) of the Earth and it disappears for a few minutes.

As space science develops, man has learned more and more about space. Space is not only amazing but also dangerous. While working in space, spacemen are facing danger as well as success. ![]()
Scientists have found out that the radiation(辐射) is the greatest danger to spacemen in space. When spacemen are working in space, they are in danger of the radiation from the sun and other stars, which is bad for their health. The harm of the radiation won’t be found until their children even grandchildren are born. Some special medicine may work a little, but no really effective medicine has been found so far.
Space rubbish is also thought to be a great danger to spacemen. It’s reported that there were 9,000 man-made things flying in space. About 30% of these are satellites, 10% are spaceships, and the rest are space rubbish. An explosion(爆炸)in space in 1999 made a cloud of 300,000 fragments, each at least 4mm in size. A small piece of these even knocked a spaceship window and caused some damage(损坏).
Scientists are watching and reporting any possible danger all the time. They are working to deal with space rubbish. Although space is really dangerous, it interests many people on the earth. In the near future, it may become possible for people to spend a few days in a space hotel. We may even choose to leave the earth and live in space in a few years. So we should do something to help improve the space environment.

A.Scientists have found out ways to solve any problem in space.
B.Every one of us can have a travel to space in ten years.
C.The harm of the radiation may be found in the spacemen’s children.
D.Space is really dangerous, so it doesn’t interest anyone on the earth.
Three days ago, the boss of a gold shop received a letter. As he was very busy, the letter was on his desk till dinner time. When he opened it, a $1000 note fell out onto the desk. With the note was a short letter:
Dear sir, I got married forty years ago. Unfortunately, at that time there was a lot of unemployment and I got no job. I was out of work for about six months before I got another one. Of course I was very short of money. I came to your shop to buy a wedding ring one day. The assistant brought some rings for me to have a look, later she was called away for a moment, and then I put one of the rings into my pocket. When she came back, I said I did not know the size of my girlfriend’s finger. So I left the shop with the ring but I didn’t pay for it. My wife died a month ago, and the fact that I never paid for her ring has been on my conscience(让我良心不安)all these years. I always feel guilty about that. At that time the ring cost $100, and I think that is about ten times at today’s price. Now, I am sending you that amount. Yours truly, A customer
