When I went back home after school, I noticed that a man was destroying the lock on a sharing-bike. After he failed, he kicked the sharing-bike hard and threw it on the road. Then a girl walked past, she picked the sharing-bike up and put all sharing-bikes in order.

In my opinion ,sharing-bikes are convenient, because they are cheap and environmental, and you can park them everywhere you want. We are supposed to use them correctly and not to destroy them. Thus, sharing-bikes can bring convenience to everyone.

Last year I went on an amazing trip by boat along the west coast of Canada. It was my brother Harry¡¯s idea. He¡¯s a ¡¾1¡¿(¼ÇÕߣ©who¡¯s also a great fan of boats. But I¡¯d dreamed of visiting the area. So I kept asking Harry if I could go, too, ¡¾2¡¿(Ö±µ½)he agreed at last!

A few weeks before we left home, there was much ¡¾3¡¿(Ó꣩in the area we were going to. But luckily the weather was OK at last. However, I was ¡¾4¡¿(浵ģ©at work so I didn¡¯t think about what needed doing. But Harry promised he¡¯d take care of everything, so I knew everything would be all right.

After arriving in Canada, we packed our ¡¾5¡¿ (¹¤¾ß)into small boats and set off.

Since very few people now lived along that coast, the only other living animals we saw for the first few days were dolphins and birds.

We often stopped for hours to explore the ¡¾6¡¿(ÑÒʯ£©pools on the beaches. And we never ¡¾7¡¿ (Íü¼Ç)lunch or dinner, though, which we all made together over camp fires.

When we ¡¾8¡¿ (×îºó)fell sleep on the boats each evening, even though the beds were hard, it really felt like stress-free living!

When the time came to leave, I was sad. How could I return to ¡¾9¡¿£¨Õý³£µÄ)life again? But I knew if I stayed, I would ¡¾10¡¿£¨ÏëÄî)my family and friends. I was also looking forward to telling everyone at home about our experiences.

¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿TED Talks: An Idea Worth Spreading

Have you heard of TED? TED stands for Technology, Entertainment and Design. TED is a set of meetings, held in different cities around the world every year. With different speakers ¨C also from different parts of the world ¨C all the speeches are uploaded (ÉÏ´«) to their website, for everyone to see.

TED meetings invite speakers to give speeches on different kinds of topics. The different speakers are usually successful in their fields and talk about new ideas and recent developments that are important to their work. The speakers are often also well-known, with people such as Bill Gates and Jane Goodall, having given talks. There are many talks on environmentalism.

For example, and on international development, aid work, and how to help poor people. There are a number of talks about education and topics that are important in the news.

While the talks cover many kinds of topics, all speakers have a strict time limit ¨C each speech must last less than 18 minutes.

As with all organisations (×éÖ¯), however, TED has had its downs as well as ups. The organization has been criticised for turning great scientists into stars. Perhaps a bigger and more important criticism of the organization is that only special people can attend the meetings. Those who attend the meetings must be special enough to get tickets because TED events costing $6000 or more.

However, ted.org, the organisation¡¯s website, is where the many interesting talks become reachable to everybody who has an Internet connection. Every weekday, a new video is uploaded from a TED event, allowing people from around the world to listen to the talks for free. At only 18 minutes, even if the video is not that interesting, you know you are not going to waste too much time.

Most TED talks are in English but there are talks in other languages, too. Besides, most of the English-language talks also have the choice of subtitles (×ÖÄ») in different languages and, as a result, the website is great for practising English and learning new vocabulary, especially in a topic that you find interesting and enjoyable. With so many choices of subject, the videos are often much more exciting.
