故选A

根据“It was an English speech contest.” 因此选择part“成员”,take part in:参加,固定短语。

由“be sure to do sth. 肯定……,Believe in yourself.

根据“Then mother and I talked about many different topics.”

这里表达的是过去的事情用一般过去时,结合句子“I tried my best to remember all the speech”我尽力记住演讲稿,然后练习,故用动词practice的过去式practiced。

结合句子“when the news came that I had won the first place”当我获得第一名的消息传来时。

结合lookonlook down on sb. 故选A

Museums, live music and malls — Chinese cities offer everything that a young person might want. But there are many young people who don't have time to enjoy these things. They follow what is called the "996" work schedule — starting work at 9 am and finishing at 9 pm, six days a week.

The “996” work schedule recently became a heated topic online after a computer programmer set up a website called "996. ICU". According to the website, working a "996” schedule is unhealthy and could cause people to end up in an ICU. This work schedule is common in Chinese tech companies like Baidu, Alibaba and Huawei. Most "996" workers do not receive overtime pay.

Many tech industry workers have complained about this schedule. "I worked '996' for nine months," a former software developer surnamed Zhang told Quartz. "I couldn't sleep due to the pressure. So, I quit."

However, the bosses of some tech companies have defended(辩护) "996". Jack Ma, founder of Alibaba, said it's “a huge treasure” for young workers to work "996”.

"If you don't invest(投资) more time and energy than others, how will you achieve the success you want? If you don't do '996' when you're young, when will you?" he said.

Many have questioned Ma's words. In an article in People's Daily, one writer said, "Valuing hard work does not justify(合理化) forcing employees(雇员) to work overtime."

Cui Zhendong, a lawyer, told China Daily that it is illegal(违法的) to use a compulsory (强制的) "996" work schedule. China's Labor Law clearly states that employees should work no more than eight hours a day or no more than 44 hours a week.

1What is the "996” work schedule?

2According to the website, what do people think of "996" work schedule?

How’s your relationship with your dad? It can be easy to let walls build up between you during the teen years. But by taking several simple steps, you can help improve the relationship between the two of you—even without great efforts. Here are a few quick tips.

Talk it out. Communication is the key to any friendship. Open your mouth and let your dad know what’s on your mind. Give him a chance to get to know you.

Listen up. Your dad’s lived more life than you have. Believe it or not, he’s probably been there and can help you get through the pressures and struggles. Ask how he dealt with school, girls or temptations (诱惑). Then pay attention.

Take some time. It can be hard for us kids to talk about what really matters. But spending time together can build the relationship, and create chances to talk. Go for a hike or a game. Work on the car. Whatever you’re into, ask your dad to do it together.

Fight fair. Family disagreements are unavoidable. When temperatures rise, keep your mouth respectful and cool off before you say something bad. Talk it out when you can do so calmly.

It shows that stopping smoking can strengthen someone’s ability to remember everyday things, according to Sciencedaily.com.
