For most people, the word “fashion” means “clothes”. But people may ask the question, “What clothes are in fashion? And they use the adjective  “fashionable” in the same way, “She was wearing a fashionable coat.” “His shirt was really a fashionable color.”

But of course there are fashions in many things, not only in clothes. There are fashions in holidays, in restaurants, in films and books. There are even fashions in school subjects, jobs…and in languages.

Today fashions change very quickly. Some of this is natural. We hear about things much more quickly than in the past. Newspapers, radios, telephones and television send information from one country to another in a few hours.

Do television advertisements(广告)make kids eat unhealthy food? Some scientists say “Yes.” They have done a study and found that food advertisements change what kids eats. Television advertisements often encourage kids to eat food that are bad for them. These foods can make kids become very fat. This is a growing problem for kids across America.

3An America kid sees about 40,000 advertisements a year. That’s almost 110 advertisements a day! They show drinks, cookies, candies and fast food. They often make kids want to eat more of these unhealthy foods. As a result many kids are overweight.

To attract kids, advertisements sometimes use popular movie or cartoon stars. Many of these advertisements don’t tell kids what the foods are made of. 4As a result, many kids may think that the foods they are eating are good for them.

What should kids do to keep a healthy life? Scientists say kids should talk with their parents and doctors to make sure whether they are eating healthy foods. Doctors also say that exercise is very important. So maybe overweight kids should watch less TV and do more exercise.
