    Tell you a true story．It happened many years ago．When a light passenger plane flew off．some time ago，it crashed in the mountains and fell down to the ground．Its pilot was killed．To everyone’s surprise，the only passagers，a young woman and her two baby daughters，were unhurt．

    It was the middle of winter．The ground was covered with thick snow．The woman thought that the nearest village was kilometers away．She looked around，but couldn’t see anybody．Few people knew where they were．A few hours later it grew dark．She turned a suit-case into a bed and put the children inside it，covering them with all the clothes she could find．During the night，it got terribly cold．The woman kept as near as she could to the children and even tried to get into the case herself，but it was too small． 

    Early next morning，she heard planes passing overhead．She shouted，waved her hands．But she wasn’t still found．She wondered how she could send a signal(信号)．Then she had an idea．She stamped out the letters“SOS”in the snow．Luckily，a pilot saw the signal and sent a message by radio to the nearest town．It was not long before a helicopter(直升机)arrived to rescue the survivors(营救生还者)of the plane crash．
