These days, many Chinese people are happy about a piece of news. What is it? China may become the second largest economy (经济体) in the world. It’s only behind the US.
But is China the second richest country, too?
No. The economy is like a cake. The US, Japan and China each makes one. China makes the second biggest cake. But lots of people have to eat it. Why? There are 1.3 billion people in China. Because earthquakes happen without warning, it’s important to take steps now to prepare. Because you don’t know where you will be when an earthquake happens, prepare some supplies(急需品) for your home, work place, and car.

1．Water

A person needs at least 1/2 gallon(加仑，容量单位) of water daily just for drinking. Store at least 1 gallon of water per(每一个) person per day and be prepared for a 72 hour period. It is suggested that you buy bottled water. Keep bottled water in its original container(容器) and do not open it until you need to use it. Also, do check the “use by” date.

2．Food

It’s always a practical idea to keep a supply of non perishable(不易腐烂的) food on hand. Have an enough supply of canned(灌装的) food, powdered milk(奶粉), dried fruits, non salted nuts and canned juices for at least 72 hours.

3．Flashlights(手电筒) and spare batteries(备用电池)

Keep a flashlight beside your bed, at your place of work, and in your car. Do not use matches or candles after an earthquake until you are sure that no gas leaks(泄漏).

Prepare a battery powered(装电池的) radio and spare batteries. Most telephones will be out of order(发生故障), so radios will be your best source of information.

If you live in a cold place, you must think about warmth. You might not have heat after an earthquake. Think about your clothing and bedding supplies.

From old times, India has been a good friend of China. The two big Asian countries now work more closely on border problems, trade (贸易) and IT.

   India is an interesting and mysterious( 神秘的)country with a long history. Around 2,000 BC, Indian civilization (文明) was born. It is one of the four oldest civilizations in the world. I heard the bees long before I saw them.

It was a very hot afternoon, and we decided to cool off in the river near my home. As we climbed down a small rocky hill toward the water, my boyfriend John suddenly started to shout then jumped into the water below. Peter and Mary quickly followed but I was too far away to jump. I was trapped.

I heard a low hum(嗡嗡声)，which was growing louder. From a distance, the group of bees looked almost like a cloud of smoke. As it got closer, I realized it was actually thousands of bees flying towards me.

All I could do was cover my face with hands. Crazily, I thought that if I sat very still, the bees would think I was just another rock.

After a few minutes, I knew my plan hadn’t worked. The bees were attacking me. I could hear my friends shouting at me to get down to the pool fast.

But it wasn’t so easy. I was in great pain and the only way I could get away was to use my hands to climb down the rocks. However, I was afraid to do that at first because my face would be unprotected. The noise the bees made was so loud and frightening, but I had no choice.

I rushed down the rocks and jumped into the pool, but I don’t remember doing it. I was just so happy to be free from the pain. I was safe, and the water felt wonderful.

But we still weren’t out of danger. Every time we tried to climb out of the pool, the bees flew back over our heads. We spent the next three hours in the water, putting our heads under the water from time to time to avoid the bees until they finally lost interest.
