One of the most famous writers from England by far is Agatha Christie.
Agatha Christie’s real name was Agatha Miller. She was born in England in 1890.She married Archibald Christie when she was 24 years old, and she changed her family name to Christie.
She sold her first mystery book in 1920. This book was the first time that the world met Mrs.Christie’s famous detective Hercule Poirot. Ten years after that, Mrs. Christie wrote her book with her second famous detective, Miss Marple.

Katharine Hepburn was one of America’s great actresses. In her life she made more than fifty films and won the Oscar for Best Actress four times.
Katharine Hepburn was born in Hartford in 1907. Her parents made sure to educate their children about social subjects and sports. She rode horses, swam and played golf and tennis.
Katharine graduated from Bryn Mawr College in 1928. She soon started appearing in small roles in plays. After a few successful plays in New York, Hollywood filmmakers became interested in her. Even into her eighties, Katharine kept working. She also wrote several books. In 2003, Katharine Hepburn died. As part of her last wishes, she helped create the Katharine Hepburn Center. This program helps support the things that were important to her; film and theater, women’s rights, and civic responsibility (公民责任).
