After years of experience, Brenda was faced with a challenge in Sunday School．However, she just didn't know how to 1 it in a good way．She had never been asked to teach a child quite like Cindy!
Cindy, you see, was different．She came from a broken home．And although she was really 2 , she thought she was so bad that she could not be successful．In fact, Cindy needed care, and most of all, Cindy needed love! There just had to be a way of 3 her．Day after day, Brenda would pray for Cindy, yet Sunday would come and go and she saw little, if any change．
Then one day Brenda asked Cindy if she could 4 a role in a Christmas programme the children were planning to do．Cindy's answer was, “Don't you think you can find someone better than me? ”
“Better than you? ” came Brenda's 5 ．“What makes you think there is 6 better than you? ”
“Well, I’ve 7 been asked to do anything before because I'm not good．I won't get the part 8 and then everyone will be mad at me for messing up(弄糟)their 9 , ” came Cindy's answer．
“Oh, Cindy, ” said Brenda in a 10 voice．“I am so 11 that you think that, but you are so wrong．Don't you realize how clever you are? ”
“No, ” Cindy replied in a low voice because she was now in 12 ．
“But Cindy, in my eyes, you are special and you can also do something well like others, ” Brenda said．
Cindy was very happy, and she decided to have a try．
On that day, in the hospital, I asked the doctor if he could test Jim again．The doctor 1 so．To my sadness, it was the same score．
Later that evening, I told Frank the 2 news．After talking it over, we agreed that our 3 was much better than an IQ(智商)test．We thought that Jim’s score must have been a 4 and we should treat him as usual．
We moved to Indiana in 1962, and Jim studied at Concordia High School in the same year．He got good grades in the school, especially in biology and chemistry．
Jim entered Indiana University in 1965 as a pre-medical student．Soon after that, his teacher 5 him to take more courses．In 1968, he was 6 by the School of Medicine, Yale University．
On graduation(毕业)day in 1972, Frank and I went to the ceremony(仪式)at Yale．After the ceremony, we told Jim about the 7 IQ score he got when he was six．Since that day, he sometimes looked at us and said with a smile,“My dear mom and dad 8 told me that I couldn’t be a doctor．They didn’t tell me until I graduated from medical school!”It is his special way of 9 us for the faith(信任)we had in him．
A few days later, Jim 10 another IQ test．We went to the same hospital．He had received the test there eighteen years before．This time he scored 126, an increase of 36 points．The result seemed to be impossible!
