My father had a small business, employing(雇用)fifteen people at any given time. We sold all kinds of milk products. I had worked for my father since I was young,      did all seven kids in my family.
One day, we had a new employee, Debbie, who wanted to work in the store for the summer. She had     done this type of work before, but planned to give it her all.
On her first day, Debbie made just about every mistake in the    . She charged the wrong prices for items, she gave the wrong bag of food to the wrong customer, and she    and broke a half gallon of milk. The torture(折磨)of watching her fighting her way was too much for me. I went into my father’s office and said, “Please go out there and put her out of her misery(苦恼).” I      him to walk right into the store and let her go away from our store.
Since my father’s office was situated within view of the sales counter, he had surely      what I was talking about. He sat,     , for a moment. Then he got up from his desk and walked over to Debbie, who was standing behind the counter.
“Debbie,” he said, as he put his hand      on her shoulder. “I have been watching you all day, and I saw how you     Mrs. Forbush.”
Debbie’s face turned red and tears began to     in her eyes as she tried hard to remember Mrs. Forbush from the many women she had given the wrong change to or drop off her milk onto the floor.
My father continued, “I’ve never seen Mrs. Forbush be so      to any one of my employees before. You really knew how to deal with her. I am sure that she is going to want you to    her every time she comes in. Keep up the good work.”
In return for being a wise and kind employer, my father got a trusty and hardworking employee for fifteen years … and a friend for life.

Not many years ago,a wealthy and rather strange old man named Johnson lived alone in a village in the south of England. He had made a lot of money in trading with foreign countries. When he was seventy-five, he gave £ 12,000 to the village school to buy land and equipment for a children’s playground.
As a result of his kindness, many people came to visit him. Among them was a newspaperman. During their talk, Johnson remarked that he was seventy-five and expected to live to be a hundred. I live with my grandmother in a Beijing yard house. One day last year, I was surprised to see a big foreigner coming out of the house next door to ours. He was very tall with short brown hair and a pair of glasses.
The first time I saw him, I was too shy to speak to him. “My English is too poor!” I thought. My grandmother told me that he had just moved into our yard. “I don’t like it!” she said. “Foreigners aren’t like us. Maybe he’ll play loud music and parties every night! I’m sure he’s going to cause trouble.”
Several days later, I met the foreigner as I was walking home after work. “Hello!” he said (in Chinese!). “My name’s Tony. I’ve just moved into the house next door to yours.” While I was wondering what to say, he continued, “There’s a nice bar down the road. Why don’t you and your family come and have dinner with me?” “Bars are bad places,” said my grandmother when I told her, but we decided to go.

Where is Love? How can we find Love?
Once a little boy wanted to meet Love. He knew it was a long trip to where Love lived, so he got his things ready with some pizzas and drinks and started off. When he passed three streets, he saw an old woman sitting in the park and watching some birds. She looked very hungry. The boy gave her a pizza. She took it and smiled at him. The smile was so beautiful that he wanted to see it again, so he gave her a Coke. She smiled once again. The boy was very happy.
They sat there all the afternoon, eating and smiling, but they said nothing. When it grew dark, the boy decided to leave. But before he had gone more than a few steps, he turned around, ran back to the old woman and gave her a hug. The woman gave him her biggest smile ever.
When the boy opened the door of his house, his mother was surprised by the look of joy(快乐)on his face and asked what had made him so happy. “I had lunch with Love. She has got the most beautiful smile in the world.” At the same time, the old woman,s son was also surprised at his mother,s pleasure and asked why.
“I ate a pizza in the park with Love,” she said, “and he is much younger than I expected.”
If the world is full of love, we can enjoy a better life.
