Hello, listeners.Welcome to Henton Hospital Radio. Before our music programme at four,I’m going to repeat some of our hospital rules.

The hospital can sleep 800 patients. There’re 8 beds in each ward. The visiting hours are in the afternoon from 2∶30 to 3∶30 and in the evening from 7∶00 to 8∶00.But remember only two people can see you at the same time.Sorry about that, but you can see what would happen if we didn’t have these rules.

The other rules are about our hours. We start quite early—you might not be used to that.We wake you up at 6 o’clock, and breakfast is at 8 o’clock, lunch is at noon. There’s tea at 3∶30 and supper is at 6 o’clock.

You can see the no smoking sign—we don’t allow smoking in the wards,I’m sure you understand why. However,if you do need to smoke, there are some smoking-rooms where it is allowed.

You will find the radio switch on the wall near your bed, with your own headphones,if you want to listen. It’s our own hospital radio wishing you a quick recovery.

It was the end-of-year party.I had asked my mother to make us cookies.Mom’s chocolate chips were the best.

But two o’clock passed, and there was no sign of her. Most of the other mothers had come and gone, dropping off their cakes and chips. The party went on, but I wouldn’t leave the window. The three o’clock bell soon took me away from my thoughts.I took my bag and walked out for home.

The house was empty when I arrived. My heart was filled with anger(气愤).For the first time in my life, my mother had let me down.I was lying on my bed when I heard her coming.“Robbie,”she called out.“Where are you?”She was looking for me from room to room, but I kept silent.

  “It’s OK, Mom,”I said,“We didn’t need those cookies.There was plenty of food to eat.Don’t cry.It’s all right.”We held each other in a long hug(拥抱).

Dear editor,

Once I went to the post office to buy some stamps. When I was ready to leave, someone came up to me.I looked up and found an old man with dirty clothes. He was a scramp-collector(捡废品的人).I instinctively(本能地)stepped backward, because I was in my clean school uniforms.

He wanted to send some money home but he didn't know how to fill out the form.He wanted me to help him.“But you can ask the cashier there.” I answered impatiently(不耐烦).

“I have asked her.But I don't understand her instructions.W0uld you please help me?” Just then,my mobile phone rang.It was a good excuse to refuse him.Hopelessly and sadly he went away and tried to find someone else to help him.

When I came out of the post office I became very upset. How couldn't refuse someone in need of help, especially such an old scramp-collector.Was it because he was old, poor and dirty?

I want to say sorry to him in this newspaper. It's been on my mind for a long time. And I hope to feel better by doing this.

Yours,

Lily
