Parents whose children show a special interest in a sport feel very difficult to make a decision about their children’s careers.Should they allow their children to train to become top sports men or women? For many children it means starting schoolwork very young, and going out with friends and other interests have to take a second place. It’s very difficult to explain to a young child why he or she has to train five hours a day, even at the weekend, when most of his or her friends are playing.
Another problem is of course money. In many countries money for training is available from government for the best young sportsmen and sportswomen. If this help can not be given, it means that it is the parents who have to find the time and the money to support their child’s development and sports clothes, transport to competitions, special equipment, etc.All can be expensive.
Many parents are worried that it is dangerous to start serious training in a sport at an early age. Some doctors agree that young muscles may be damaged by training before they are properly developed.Professional trainers, however, believe that it is only by training young when young that you can reach the top as a successful sports person. It is clear that very few people do reach the top, and both parents and children should be prepared for failure even after many years of training.

Economists usually study markets. Now,two Americans have won the Nobel Prize in economics for not studying markets. They will share almost one and a half million dollars for their analysis of economic governance(治理).The winners are Elinor Ostrom of Indiana University in Bloomington and Oliver Williamson of the University of California,Berkeley. The prize in economic sciences has gone to 63 men since it was first awarded 40 years ago.Elinor Ostrom is the first woman. And,like other winners over the years, her training is not limited to economics. She is a professor of political science and of public and environmental affairs.
Today, economic theory suggests that good resource management requires ownership, either private or public. If not,the thinking goes, then self-interest will lead to overuse and destruction of shared resources.Ecologist Garrett Hardin described this idea in 1968 as“the tragedy of the commons.”
Elinor Ostrom showed how local decision making can lessen the tragedy. Her research has deepened understanding of how people balance their needs with those of others who depend on the same resources.
She studied communities like farmers in Southern  California who depended on a common water supply. She documented how people who use resources often develop ways to share them. One example is forest management. She says,“One of the absolutely key, most important variables(变量)as to
whether or not a forest survives and continues is whether local people monitor each other and its use.Not officials, locals.”
Oliver Williamson has studied big companies and found that they often are better than markets at doing complex jobs.Under his theory, businesses act as structures for conflict resolution.
For example, companies that own their suppliers can avoid long-term contracts and disputes over prices. This can make production more efficient and make better use of limited resources. But businesses can also abuse their power.Professor Williamson says the best way to deal with this is not by limiting the size of companies, but through industry regulation.
The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences said economists need to do more than study markets and prices. The Nobel judges urged more research like the kind they recognized with this year’s award.
60.According to Elinor Ostrom,                .
A.the tragedy of the commons is caused by local decision
B.private ownership can cause the tragedy of the commons
C.overuse of shared resources can cause the tragedy of the commons
D.it is not the officials but the local people who can do something to avoid the tragedy
61.This year’s Nobel Prize for economics is shared by        .

C.Oliver Williamson and Garrett Hardin   D.63 economic scientists
62.Professor Williamson proved that long-term contracts and disputes over prices can be
avoided by big companies by                  .
A.1imiting the size of other companies
B.providing sufficient production
C.sharing resources with their own suppliers
D.setting up their own industry regulation
63.Which of the following can serve as the best title for the passage?
A.Two American Economists Won the Nobel Prize for Studying Markets.
B.Researchers of Economic Governance Won the Nobel Prize for Economics.
C.First Woman to Win the Nobel Prize for Economic Strategies.
D.The Tragedy of the Commons and the Big Businesses.

Methods of training animals have changed greatly in recent years. Zoo keepers have always had problems getting the animals to leave their cages in order for the cages to be cleaned, and also training them to move indoors when appropriate. Another problem was that many of the large animals became listless and bored. In the last twenty years, scientists have done research on dolphins and whales, training them to obey commands. The scientists found they could get animals to obey by rewarding them with food and affection when they responded correctly.?

Proper training allows the animals to receive the care they need. It was very difficult to get untrained animals, especially the larger ones, to stay still when they needed medical attention. Now they can be trained, on command, to remain still and even to allow blood samples to be taken and shots administered. All this is accomplished through positive reinforcement, without the use of any force. Affection training, as this process is called, has been used with great success on a wide variety of zoo animals. Animal behavior experts have taught zoo keepers to train bears, tigers, monkeys, and many other species to behave in a way that provides for better animal-keeper interaction. This training also keeps the animals from becoming bored and inactive.?

Although some people proclaim(谴责) that this training is inhumance and cruel to animals, results have shown that captive(猎获的)animals who previously were not doing well flourish under the new training procedures.?

The word “listless” means _______.

A. countless B. obedient

C. inactive      D. mysterious?

Which of the following is valid conclusion based on this passage?

A. It is safe to pet any animal. ?

B. Many animals respond favorably to rewards and affection.?

C. Animals in the wild can be trained.?

The writer's purpose is to _______.

A. persuade people not to feed animals in the zoo?

B. show how easy it is to train animals?

C. explain method of training animals through rewards?

D. criticize zoo keepers?

Which of the following is an opinion??

Primary teachers are responsible for guiding children through the formation of many important life skills, and also watching over their students’ social development. Primary teachers come into contact with about 30 students every day, and teach them a variety of subjects. Many hours are spent before and after class on planning, preparation and correction. One should be a very patient, caring, yet firm person to be able to deal with the demands of children in the four to twelve-year-old age group.

Secondary teachers teach specific subjects to various groups of students. Just like primary teachers, they spend an amount of time planning and preparing lessons and correcting homework—their duties are not restricted to face-to-face teaching. Dealing with twelve to eighteen-year-olds requires a wide range of skills.

If you become a primary teacher, you will need to decided whether to be a “generalist (多面手)”, teaching a wide range of subjects, or a "specialist", teaching only one or two. Most primary teachers are specialists. Generalist teachers spend the greatest part of their day with one class, which means that they spend more time with the same children. Specialist teachers have more time away from their students. It is therefore very important for generalist teachers to develop a strong working relationship with their students.

The unique rapport (和谐) you can develop with a particular set of students is one of teaching’s greatest pleasures. However, the disadvantage of primary teaching is that if you have a difficult student, you will be forced to deal with him or her, all day, every day, throughout the school year. Teachers need to work out strategies to get themselves and their students through such difficulties.

Primary teachers today are generally four-year trained. They usually do a three or four-year undergraduate degree, and if this degree does not include teacher training, they will have to undertake postgraduate study in education as well.

1. After class primary teachers usually_____________

A. come into contact with students

2. What does the third paragraph mainly discuss?

A. What a primary teacher needs to do in the classroom.

B. The differences between generalist and specialist teaching.

C. How a primary teacher should try his best in the school.

D. The relationship between the primary teachers and students.

3. We can learn from this passage that___________

A. a primary teacher needs a wide range of skills

B. the disadvantage of primary teaching is having difficult students

C. teacher training is not important for a primary teacher

D. secondary teachers mainly teach children two subjects

4. The author writes the article in order to_________

A. tell teachers how primary teachers guide students

B. tell teachers what you should do as a primary teacher

C. let readers know more about primary teachers

D. let readers know how to be a primary teacher
