In Tokyo there are always too many people in the places where I want to be. Of course there are too many cars. The Japanese drive very fast. but in Tokyo they often spend a long time in traffic jams. Tokyo is not different from London. Paris and New York in that. It is different when one wants to walk. At certain times of the day there are a lot of people on foot in London¡¯s Oxford Street. But the streets near the Ginze in Tokyo always have a lot of people on foot. and sometimes it is really difficult to walk. People are very polite, there are just too many of them. The worst time to be in the street is at 11:30 at night. That is when the nightclubs are closing and everybody wants to go home. There are 35,000 nightclubs in Tokyo. and you do not often see one that is empty. During the day. most people travel to and from work by train. Tokyo people buy six million train tickets every day. At most stations. trains arrive every two or three minutes. but at certain hours there do not seem to be enough trains. Although they are usually crowded. Japanese trains are very good. They always leave and arrive on time. On a London train you would see everybody reading a newspaper. In Tokyo trains everybody in a seat seems to be asleep. whether his journey is long or short. In Tokyo. I stood outside the station for five minutes. Three fire-engines raced past on the way to one of the many fires that Tokyo has every day. Tokyo has so many surprises that none of them can really surprise me now.

It was a cold evening. My daughter and I were walking up Broadway. I didn¡¯t notice a guy sitting inside a cardboard box. But Nora    36    . She wasn¡¯t even four, but she   37    at my coat and said, ¡°That man¡¯s cold. Daddy, can we take him home?¡±

The building was in a bad state. Facing us was a silver-haired woman in an old dress. She took the package and asked us to come in. Nora ran inside. I unwillingly followed.   50     inside, I saw that the department belonged to someone poor. Our hostess showed us some photos. Nora played and when it came time to say goodbye, we three hugged. It was a perfect day, just the right kind of day to go fishing.

My 13-year-old son Jonathan and I had been 26 this trip for weeks, and now we were sitting on the shore of a beautiful lake.

¡¡ We 27 and talked, and then, suddenly, I saw small 28 where my float(¸¡×Ó) had been. I waited, 29 it would pop right back up again, but the 30 stayed underneath the water and my heart started to beat 31 . After a few more seconds, my fishing rod was suddenly pulled off the stick it was leaning on 32 me and it was being dragged towards the water.

¡¡ I firmly caught hold of the fishing rod and lifted it up. This fish was 33 ! Slowly, my son balanced on two rocks and leaned down to get the giant off the fishhook.

¡¡ For just one second, he lost his 34 and reached up with his right hand to steady 35 . At that moment, our huge fish got off the fishing line and started to swim ¡¡36 .

¡¡ I saw tears streaming down Jonathan¡¯s face. ¡°Dad, I¡¯m sorry. I¡¯ll never be able to 37 this up to you.¡± I reached out and put my hands on his shoulders. I said the following 38 almost without thinking. ¡°Jon, how did you feel 39 I was reeling(Íù¾íÖáÉÏÈÆÆð) that fish in? Were you excited?¡± He nodded and said, ¡° Dad, I¡¯ve never been so ¡¡40 in my whole life!¡± I replied, ¡° Jon, wasn¡¯t that about the most fun thing we¡¯ve ever done together?¡± He nodded his head in 41 . Then I said, ¡°So, why should we let a fish getting away 42 possibly the best experience we¡¯ve ever had? Let¡¯s be happy about the fun we did have.¡±

¡¡ My son, 43 his arms around me and said, ¡° Dad, I love you so much!¡± I 44 him back and said softly into his ear, ¡°I love you too, Jon.¡±

¡¡ We 45 did catch that big fish. But I¡¯ve known ever since that I didn¡¯t let the most important thing get away that day.

We all have storms through our lives. But we have no right to make everyone else suffer with our own ¡¡31 .

¡¡ The carpenter I ¡¡32 to help me restore an old farmhouse had just finished a(n) ¡¡33 first day on the job. A flat tire made him lose an hour of work, his electric saw quit, and now his truck ¡¡34 to start.

While I drove him home, he sat in stony ¡¡35 .

On arriving, he invited me in to meet his family. As we walked toward the front door, he paused ¡¡36 ¡¡at a small tree, ¡¡37 tips of the branches with both hands.

When opening the door, he underwent a(n) ¡¡38 transformation. His tanned face was wreathed in smiles, and he ¡¡39 ¡¡his two small children and gave his wife a kiss.

The next day my ¡¡40 drove me to ask him about what I had seen. ¡°Oh, that¡¯s my trouble tree,¡± he replied. ¡°I know I can¡¯t ¡¡41 having troubles on the job, but the troubles don¡¯t ¡¡42 to the house with my family. So I just ¡¡43 them up on the tree. Then in the morning I pick them up again.¡±

¡° 44 thing is,¡± he smiled, ¡°when I come out in the morning to pick them up, there aren¡¯t nearly as ¡¡45 as I remember the night before.¡±

Putting ¡¡46 around our problems is a really good idea --- it prevents our difficulties from spilling over onto loved people, who can¡¯t do anything about our problems. Why ¡¡47 them if they can¡¯t help us?

So, plant yourself a trouble tree outside and use it ¡¡48 you come home. Be grateful that you have loved ones to go home to ¡¡ 49 your loved one is simply your beloved dog.
