No more batteries,no more chargers and no more wires. This is the future promised by  "wireless power".a means of broadcasting electricity through the air to laptops,iPods and other gadgets(小器具)without the need for cables and sockets(插座).

Wireless lighting, audio speakers and digital picture frames are expected to be among the first commercial products exhibited in Las Vegas this week at the International Consumer Electronics Show, the world's biggest gadgets tradeshow.

Experts believe this is just the beginning and that eventually wireless electricity could do for battery life what WiFi(局域网)did for,the Internet. In a world without wires, laptop users in cafes and airport terminals(终点站)would be inside an "electricity hotspot" and no longer have to delve an awkwardly located socket.

"You'd be able to buy.a desk that charged any gadget placed on it, or power any PC you put on top," said James Holland, editor of gadgets website Eleetricpig.co.uk."If each room had wireless power, you'd know that once you walked through the front door your nmbile would start charging up―even while still in your bag or pocket. You'd never need to hunt for the right charger again."

Among the companies showcasing the ambitions technology at CES is Power Beam. Its system turns electricity into an invisible laser, then beams(传播) it as heat, across the room to a solar cell that conveys it back into dectricity.

David Graham, the co-founder of Power Beam, said:"We're going to delete the word  'recharge' from the English dictionary. If your, cell phone is recharging on your desk.all day,you won't be thinking about.it." The Silicon Valley company can currently use a laser to generate about 1.5 watts of power to_ a solar.cell 10 meters away. This, sould be enough to power an electronic speaker or small LED(二极管) lights, but not enough to operate a laptop, which requires about 30 to 50 watts. However,Graham said that the technology could comfortably be scaled up(提高).

Power Beam insists its laser does not lead to a risk to users' health because it is simply moving heat from one place to another.Graham said that,if someone walked through the beam,it would shut down within a thousandth of a second, then restart once the path is clear. The technology also promises because it would only power products when needed.

You would no longer have to   6   mobile phones running out of power because once you walked through the front door your mobile would start charging up – even while still in your bag or pocket. You’d never need to hunt for the right   7  again.

The technology works by turning electricity into an invisible laser (激光), then sends it across the room to a battery that   8   it back into electricity.

Currently the laser can only create enough electricity to power a small light about 10 meters away but experts say both the power and   9   will quickly increase.

The technology also  10    to save energy because it would only power products when needed.

A German taxi-driver, Franz Bussman, recently found his brother who was thought to have been killed twenty years before.

While on a walking tour with his wife, he stopped to talk to a workman. After they had gone on, Mrs. Bussman said that the workman was closely like her husband and even suggested that he might be his brother. Franz laughed at the idea, pointing out that his brother had been killed in action during the war. Though Mrs. Bussman knew this story quite well, she thought that there was a chance in a million that she might be right.

A few days later, she sent a boy to the workman to ask him if his name was Hans Bussman. Needless to say, the man's name was Hans Bussman. And he really was Franz's long-lost brother. When the brothers were reunited, Hans explained how it was that he was still alive.

After having being wounded towards the end of the war, he had been sent to hospital and was separated from his unit. Even when you’re extremely busy, you aren’t using your time with 100% efficiency. There are gaps in everyone’s schedule where they aren’t doing anything important. Even if your schedule has no gaps, there is probably lots of time where you aren’t working as fast or as effectively as you possibly could.

Why aren’t you completely efficient? It’s because time isn’t the limiting factor. If it were the limiting factor, people could work non-stop without breaks or any unproductive distractions(消遣). Instead, people, even those who are highly productive, need to take breaks, occasionally procrastinate(拖延) and slow down on tasks throughout the day.

The real and most important limiting factor for productivity is your energy levels to pay attention. Energy levels limit your productivity because when you’re tired, you can have ample time and still not get everything done. Your attention ability is also limited, because even if there are a million things that need to be done, you can only focus on one or two at a time.

You might not be able to insert another 4-5 hours into your schedule without making some sacrifices. But even extremely busy people can add an hour or two into their schedule without cancelling anything. The reason it’s hard to “find time” isn’t a lack of time. It’s because you don’t have enough energy left to focus on something else that needs to fit into your day.

I first suspected time wasn’t the real problem during an extremely busy period in my life over a year ago. I was insanely (发疯地)busy, but at that time I still exercised regularly. I had daily to-do lists with over twenty items, and I still found time to exercise. However, after a few weeks off, due to illness, I stopped exercising. I was not busy by any standards, in fact, my schedule was incredibly light. Despite this free time, I found it hard to find time to exercise. It seemed to get pushed later and later into my schedule until it was gone. How can I explain this odd experience? I believe you have known it.

1.If someone can’t work with 100% efficiency, the most important limiting factor is ________.

A.a schedule without gaps                           B.breaks and distractions

C.the limited time                              D.the limited energy

2.According to paragraph 4, everyone, including the extremely busy people, can ___________.

A.work without any rest                        B.focus on many things at a time

C.find some more time in a day            D.do some exercise regularly

3.After a few weeks off, what was the change of the writer’s life?

A.He had a longer daily to-do lists with over twenty items.

B.He stopped doing exercise because of the lack of energy.

C.He found it hard to find time to exercise because he was busier.

D.He pushed most of the things later and later in his schedule.

4.The writer gives the example of himself in the last paragraph in order to ___________.

A.prove what the real limiting factor is

B.show us how busily he needs to work

C.explain how important a healthy body is

D.tell us what an odd experience he has

5.What is the best title of the passage?

A.Are You Really Lack of Time?          B.How Can You Work Efficiently?

C.What Makes Your Energy Limited?       D.When Should You Do Exercise?

No one knows exactly how many disabled people there are in the world, but estimates suggest the figure is over 450 million. The number of disabled people in India alone is probably more than double the total population of Canada.

In the United Kingdom, about one in ten people have some disability. Disability is not just something that happens to other people. As we get older, many of us will become less mobile, hard of hearing or have failing eyesight.

Disablement can take many forms and occur at any time of life. Some people are born with disabilities. Many others become disabled as they get older. There are many progressive disabling diseases. The longer time goes on, the worse they become. Some people are disabled in accidents. Many others may have a period of disability in the form of a mental illness. All are affected by people's attitude towards them.

Disabled people face many physical barriers. Next time you go shopping or to work or visit friends, imagine how you would manage if you could not get up steps, or on to buses and trains. How would you cope if you could not see where you were going or could not hear the traffic? But there are other barriers: prejudice can be even harder to break down and ignorance unavoidably represents by far the greatest barrier of all. It is almost impossible for the able-bodied to fully appreciate what the severely disabled go through, so it is important to draw attention to these barriers and show that it is the individual person and their ability, not their disability, which counts.

1.The first paragraph points out that _________.

A.there are many disabled people in the world

B.the number of disabled people in India is the greatest

C.India has a little more disabled people than Canada

D.it is easy to get an exact figure of the world's disabled people

2.The last word of the passage “counts” most probably means _________.

       A.is numbered                                        B.is considered

       C.is included                                          D.is most important

3.Which of the following statements is NOT true according to the passage?

A.even the able-bodied may lose some of their body functions when they get older

B.there are about 10 percent disabled persons in the UK

C.the whole society should pay due attention to the barriers faced by the disabled people

D.there still exists prejudice against the disabled which results mainly from ignorance

4.It can be concluded from the passage that ______.

A.we should try our best to prevent disablement

B.both physical and mental barriers are hard to break down

C.we must take a proper attitude towards the disabled

D.the able-bodies people will never fully understand the disabled
