Getting around in Canada is fairly easy. Most cities have urban transportation systems, including buses, streetcars, and trains, and some of the larger cities also have subways. Every year holidays Broughton teams up with Sopraviva Trekking to offer twelve days of unforgettable adventure in a tropical rain forest. Depending on where this year's rain forest adventure is located, you may be going to Borneo, Malaysia, Indonesia, or even to the greatest rain forest of them all, the mighty Amazonian forest.

You will fly with your fellow adventurers to one of our special base camps at the edge of the forest, where you will be given five days of survival training, and talks on the local wildlife by trained and experienced experts. Operation Green Sweep

For Teens Currently in 6th-12th Grades

Operation Green Sweep is a volunteer program for teens who want to earn community service

hours by helping to clean up our city parks and community centers. Teens will clean up various

local parks, remove light rubbish and learn a thing or two about our parks and surrounding

environment.

Fridays, April 17 to May 29, 2009

3:30 to 5:00

Meet at the Teen Center, 2203 Central Avenue, Room 170

Cost: $45 --- covers the uniform shirt, training guidebook and transportation

Note: If you miss more than two days, you may be dropped from the program without earning

your hours. Please bring a snack, wear work clothes (no skirts or open-toed shoes) and sunscreen.

Teens are expected to arrive at the meeting place on time, learn communication skills and learn to plan ahead. All volunteers must meet at the Veteran’s Memorial Building to receive their tasks. Do not be late because transportation is provided to take teens to their selected sites.

Winter is dangerous for drivers because it’s so difficult to know what is going to happen and accidents take place easily. Bad weather can be waiting to meet you. Ice might be hiding under the snow, waiting to send you off the road. The car coming towards you might suddenly move across the road. Here are two rules for driving safely on icy roads:

Rule Number One is to drive smoothly. Irregular movements can make a car very difficult to manage. So each time you either turn the wheel, touch the brake or increase your speed, you must be as gentle and slow as possible. Just imagine you are driving with a full cup of hot coffee on the seat next to you. You should drive carefully enough in order that you wouldn’t get the coffee out of the cup.
