A painter hangs his or her finished pictures on a wall, and everyone can see it. A composer writes a work, but no one can hear it until it is performed. Professional singers and players have great responsibilities, for the composer is utterly dependent on them.

A student of music needs as long and arduous a training to become a performer as a medical student needs to become a doctor. Most training is concerned with technique, for musicians have to have the muscular proficiency of an athlete or a ballet dancer. Singers practice breathing every day, as their vocal chords would be inadequate without controlled muscular support. String players practice moving the fingers of the left hand up and down, while drawing the bow to and fro with the right arm----????????two entirely different movements. Singers and instruments have to be able to get every note perfectly in tune. Pianists are spared this particular anxiety, for the notes are already there, waiting for them, and it is the piano tuner's responsibility to tune the instrument for them. But they have their own difficulties; the hammers that hit the string have to be coaxed not to sound like percussion, and each overlapping tone has to sound clear. This problem of getting clear texture is one that confronts(使面对)student conductors: they have to learn to know every note of the music and how it should sound, and they have to aim at controlling these sounds with fanatical but selfless authority. Technique is of no use unless it is combined with musical knowledge and understanding. Great artists are those who are so thoroughly at home in the language of music that they can enjoy performing works written in any century.

19. In writing this passage, the purpose of the author is ___________.

   A. to tell us we use different sense at paints and music

   B. to recommend music needs more technique

   C. to inform us that to become a musician needs long and arduous training

   D. for the students who are to go in for music

20. If you are a string performer, you have to _____________.

   A. use your left hand to draw the bow and the right to move up and down

   B. have your both hands perform the same movements.

   C. own technique, musical knowledge and understanding

   D. practice more and more without any training

21. The problem of getting clear texture is that ____________.

  A. confronts student conductors

  B. the student conductors have to know every note and how it should sound and how to control the sounds fanatically.

 C. the sounds are too easy to control

 D. the composer’s work cannot be seen on the wall.

22. According to the passage, _______________.

 A. a composer cannot perform the music at all.

B a composer has to utterly depend on student conductors

 C. student conductors need more training and knowledge on music to be great artists.

 D. Great artists are thoroughly at home in the language of music.

As I understand, if scientists produced a human clone, there would be a great risk of it having a disease. Nobody seems to understand the ageing process of a clone. It would be terrible if a baby was the age of its parent at     31   . Its cells would grow old fast and it would die young.    32    until the technique is perfectly safe, it should be     33   .
I'd love to have a clone of     34   . I often wish I had a twin sister, someone who    35   me in everything. So why not a clone? Well, the idea    36   be fun but I'm not sure if it would be     37   . I think we would be playing with fire if we let scientists go ahead with     38   cloning. There are so many     39

There are so many arguments     40    cloning that it is difficult to get anyone to consider the possible benefits. I am     41    that it is a technique which could be beneficial. The most obvious use would be for childless     42   . They would be able to have babies with their own genetic material. I don't see what's wrong with that.
Imagine a child     43    up knowing that his or her mother is really a sister or a brother. The emotional     44    on the child would be     45   . A religious person will have a different thought from one who is not.And a Democrat usually doesn’t view issues the same way as a Republican.
Take the shoes for example. It has the same principle. Some like custom shoes for personalization. But some don’t.Someone will buy a shoes printer only for one desired image. That all depends on different conceptions. So when you have a negative thought about yourself, don’t consider it a fact until you also reflect on the opposite view. And if the alternative is more positive, accept that to be your truth.
An anorexic (厌食症患者) looks in the mirror and thinks she’s fat.As a result she starves herself and rids her body of vital nutrition. But society thinks she’s too skinny.Unless she can change her perception, she’ll never agree with society. And she’ll never get better. What are you seeing in you that is preventing you from realizing how beautiful you are? Or how smart you are? Or how lovable? If you take the positive view, that is how other people will see you too.
More often than not the critical statements that damage your self-esteem come from your own mind. Now you know how you can silence them.A bad comment is usually not about you; it’s about something that is going on with the commenter.Don’t believe anything that is said to you that isn’t in your best interest. And don’t waste any time or brainpower on anyone who doesn’t think you are amazing.
It’s what you think that creates how you feel.Design your own custom shoes, despite other one’s critical eyes.If you like it, it will be the top one.If someone tells you you’re fat, or stupid or otherwise unappealing, the only person you should think badly about is them!
1.What is the passage mainly about?
A.Try to be different.         B.Different beliefs make different views.
C.You are actually amazing.    D.Trust what people say to you.
2.Which of the following sentences contains a metaphor (暗喻)?
A.A Democrat usually doesn’t view issues the same way as a Republican.
B.Some like custom shoes for personalization.
C.An anorexic looks in the mirror and thinks she is fat.
D.Design your own custom shoes, despite others’ critical eyes.
3.The reason why the writer wrote this passage is to        .
A.confuse people as how to think
B.help people learn how to do self – reflection
C.tell people different ways of thinking
D.show he is smarter than most of the people
