The wind had picked up, and angry, dark clouds 31 across the sky. He could smell the rain coming. And it did. 32 , the lightning flashed through the clouds, nearly 33 Raul. The thunder (雷声) was so loud that he buried his head in his hands and rubbed his eyes. Then he heard it — hoof beats (蹄声). He 34 . There before him stood a tall, white horse. An old man stared down at him from its back.
“Wh-wh-who are y-y-you?” asked Raul. “Oh, my name is Gray Cloud,” the old man answered 35 , “come with me.”
Raul followed on with his horse. A 36 feeling came over him. All 37 them the rain was pouring down, 38 not a drop fell on them. They seemed to be 39 back toward Raul’s home. Raul lost track of time. Then all at once, he found 40 at the ranch gate. The old man turned his horse, waved his hand, and smiled. Lightning flashed again. The old man and his horse were 41 .
Raul’s father ran out across the yard to 42 him. “We have been 43 about you. Are you okay? Hurry. Let’s get in out of the 44 .”
“Wait,” said Raul. “Have you ever heard of an old man called Gray Cloud?”
“Can’t say I … wait. I believe my great-grandfather used to tell stories about a man called Gray Cloud. He died a long time ago. They all say he was 45 by lightning during a terrible thunderstorm. Why do you ask?” At this, Raul was really more shocked than puzzled.

We each have a memory. That’s why we can still remember things after a long time. Some people have very good memories and they can easily learn many things by heart, but some people can only remember things when they say or do them again and again. Many of the great men of the world have got surprising memories.
A good memory is a great help in learning a language. Everybody learns his mother language when he is a small child. He hears the sounds, remembers them and then he learns to speak. Some children are living with their parents in foreign countries. They can learn two languages as easily as one because they hear, remember and speak two languages every day. In school it is not so easy to learn a foreign language because the pupils have so little time for it, and they are busy with other subjects, too.
But your memory will become better and better when you do more and more exercises.

I believe honesty is one of the greatest gifts. I know they call it a lot of fancy names these days, like 36_ and straightforward .And it’s still what 37 a man a good citizen .This is my secret ,and I try to live by .
I’ve been in the taxi business for thirty-five year, 38 there is a lot about it that is not so good. Taxi drivers have to be rough and tumble (乱作一团) fellows to be able to take it in New York. You’ve got to be 39 to fight the New York traffic eight hours a day . Because taxi drivers are tough, people get the 40 impression that they are bad .Taxi drivers are just like other people. Most of them will act as 41 fellows. You read in the papers almost every week 42 a taxi driver turns in money or jewels or like that people leave in their 43 . If they weren’t hones, you wouldn’t be reading those stories in the papers. One time .I found an emerald (翡翠的) ring in my car. I remembered helping a lady with a lot of suitcases that day , so I went back to where I had 44 . It took me almost two days to wait for her in order to return her 45 to her. I didn’t get much as “thank you”. 46 I felt good because I had done what was right. I think I felt better than she 47 .
I was born and raised in Ireland until I was nineteen years old. I came to this country in 1913 where I 48 several jobs to earn a few dollars before joining the army in Word War I. After being discharged (退伍), I bought my own car and have owned one ever since. It hasn’t been too easy 49 , but my wife takes care of our money and we have a good bit 50 for a rainy day (一时之需). In all my years of driving a taxi, I have never had 51 with the public, not even with drunks. Even if they get a little headstrong (顽固的) once in a while, I just agree with them and then they behave themselves.
People ask me about tips. As far as I know, 52 everyone will give you something , because most Americans are 53 generous . I always try to be nice to everyone, whether they 54 or not. I believe in God and try to be a good member of my parish (教区 ). I try to act toward others like I think god wants me to act. I have been trying this for a long time, and the 55 I try , the easier it gets.

One very cold and rainy night in the winter of 2012, my husband and I were in a fast food restaurant. We were about to begin our meal 36 a man walked in. He was completely 37 from the rain and went into the men's room.
I watched him go by, then I said to my husband, "That man must have had nothing to eat in a long time." When the man came out of the men's room, he just 38 himself in a chair, not going anywhere near the food counter. I 39 that he didn't have any money for food and 40 wanted to dry off for a while.
I just couldn't eat my food knowing that someone else was sitting 41 only a few tables away. So, I 42 a $20.00 bill from my shopping money to my husband. "Please get him dinner," I said. "We can do with less money this week."
My husband 43 the man and quietly asked if he needed some food. The man 44 at us. "A small cup of coffee would be great," he said. "Thank you so much!" He 45 wasn't going to take advantage of us, but we 46 that he should have a full meal, which he gratefully(感激地) 47 .
After he 48 the food, he thanked my husband and my husband said, "No. Thank my 49 . She noticed that you were 50 ."
The man asked me, " 51 did you know I haven't eaten in a long time?" I smiled at him and said nothing , just asking him to 52 the change(零钱) from the $20.00.
Giving others a 53 whenever they’re in trouble not only brings happiness to the ones who 54 it but also to the ones who give it. I am so grateful that I was able to 55 with someone truly in need. It is a little bit of extra warmth on a rainy day.

You wake up in the morning, the day is beautiful and the plans for the day are what you have been looking forward to for a long time. Then the telephone rings, you say hello, and the drama starts. The person on the other end has a depressing tone in his voice as he starts to tell you how terrible his morning is and that there is nothing to look forward to.You are still in a wonderful mood? Impossible!
Communicating with negative people can wash out your happiness. It may not change what you think, but communicating long enough with them will make you feel depressed for a moment or a long time.
Life brings ups and downs, but some people are stuck in the wrong idea that life has no happiness to offer. They only feel glad when they make others feel bad.No wonder they can hardly win others’ pity or respec
t.
When you communicate with positive people, your spirit stays happy and therefore more positive things are attracted. When the dagger(匕首) of a nega
tive person is put in you,you feel the heavy feeling that all in all, brings you down.
Sometimes we have no choice but to communicate with negative people. This could be a co-worker,or a relative. In this case, say what needs to be said as little as possible. Sometimes it feels good to let out your anger back to the negative person, but all this does is to lower you to that same negative level and they won’t feel ashamed of themselves about that.
Negativity often affects happiness without even being realized. The negative words of another at the start of the day can cling to(附着) you throughout the rest of your day, which makes you feel bad and steals your happiness.Life is too short to feel negative.Stay positive and avoid negativity as much as possible.
