Last year was the year of the travel deal, with resorts and
airlines practically begging for bookings, and many travelers
finding bargain airfares and hotel rooms as a result. Now the
economy looks as if it might be on a slight rebound. So now is
the perfect time to review your booking strategy(策略).
Here are 4 simple steps you can take to help cut your travel costs in 2010.
1.Find the Cheapest Dates to Fly
ITASoftware.com, which provides the technological backbone for many airfare shopping sites, allows users to scan an entire month's fares for the least expensive rate.(Log in as a "guest" and click on "month-long search.") In January, the 28th and 30th were the cheapest dates to fly nonstop to London from New York ($536) for a week's vacation, according to a recent search. The next best was Saturday, Jan.23, at $640.To book the ticket, users must go to another site.Kayak.com has a flexible-dates option (registration is required)and a calendar that shows the best fares found by other Kayak users in the last 48 hours.Bing Travel, the Microsoft search engine, offers a similar option, found under "plan trips," about halfway down the page.
2.Consider Nearby Airports
A recent Web search showed nonstop flights from Los Angeles International Airport to Miami International from $299 round trip on American in early January. But flying into Fort Lauderdale, roughly 30 miles north of Miami, was $219 on Virgin America, an $80 saving.
3.Go Against the Grain
If possible, avoid popular travel dates like holidays and spring break because airlines have begun to charge anywhere from $10 to $30 extra at those times.Farecompare.com offers a handy breakdown of the new fees by date, airline and amount.Early-morning and late-night flights may also be cheaper depending on the route.
4.Make Yourself at Home
For a 6 to 12 percent booking fee, AirBnB/com connects budget travelers with locals who are offering a place to bed down. The Times's Frugal Traveler, Matt Gross, described it as "a cross between CouchSurfing.com and the vacation rentals section of Craigslist." There were more than 2,000 listings in a recent search for New York including a futon (床垫) in a one-bedroom near Gramercy Park ($65) and a bedroom with private bath and separate entrance in Hell's Kitchen ($150).
65.According to the first paragraph, ____.
A.the economy in 2010 is surely getting better
B.2009 saw a sharp decrease in travel fees
C.the booking strategies can be put away in 2010
D.in 2009, airlines begged the travelers to buy more travel guides
66.If you want to book a ticket, you may log on to _____.
A.ITASoftware.com                B.CouchSurfing.com
C.AirBnB.com         D.Kayak.com
67.What does "Go Against the Grain" probably mean in the passage?
A.Going travelling in the off-season.
B.Going travelling without taking any grain.

My mother seemed to be able to make dolls (洋娃娃) out of anything. She made some dolls for me and my two elder sisters. I 36 playing with them, but still, secretly, I hoped for a store-bought 37 like the one our rich cousin had. Her doll 38 open and close its blue glass eyes and even say "Mamma". I 39 stopped admiring it and hoping to have one.
However, my dream 40 came true when I was six. One day my father came back from his business trip with three 41 dolls! They were much smaller than our cousin’s doll and their eyes were just painted ones, but I did not 42 such differences. They were 43 "store-bought" dolls. We each chose one and I named 44 Misako.
Soon my sisters and I became 45. Our "children" kept us 46 all day. We gave them a bath, 47 them, brushed their hair, took them out for a walk and put them to bed. Several months later, they got more like real children — their 48 and bodies became dirtier; their dresses got stained; their hair less smooth.
But, by then, 49 interests seemed to have moved into 50 toys. Their dolls were abandoned (被抛弃) and in bad condition. One had 51 one of her arms, and 52 was one-legged. "You can 53 them if you want," my sisters said to me. Thus, I had 54_ dolls. They were more or less handicapped (残疾) and they often looked at me as if they needed me to 55 them. I enjoyed this feeling of being needed — being the only one in the world who could protect them with a lot of love. Indeed, they made the rest of my childhood days very happy.

College was the best of times and the worst of times for me. I met the best friends of my life, had    21   experiences, but I also folded under more   22   than I ever had to deal with before.     23   bad grades, I ended up being asked to take a semester off at the end of the first semester of my senior year.
So I went back home to   24  with my father and stepmother. To their credit, they understood me and were very cool about my coming back. I felt their    25   from the moment I walked in the door. They   26   to let me feel like a failure.
One morning not long after I had come home, my father woke me up saying that my stepmother   27  on the kitchen floor. I went downstairs trying to perform CPR on her   28   it was too late. She was already dead of a massive heart attack.
I’ll never   29  the look on my father’s face when he was given the official news of her passing. I knew at that moment that I had to be   30  because he needed someone to lean on. It was as if our roles had    31  and I was being the protective parent while he took the time to   32   .
I guess the lesson I took from it is that even in our   33   moments we can still be of help to someone who is   34   something much harder. It’s so easy to close ourselves off to the things going on around us, and   35  feel that we are the only ones   36  . Helping someone else could actually help us   37  ourselves.
Needlessly to say I went back to college the next semester, and I studied harder and got my    38    . My father and I developed a bond that was    39   closer than it already was, and I have a much better ability to keep   40  times in perspective.(适当地)
