第二部分  阅读理解  (满分35分)

第一节 阅读理解下面的短文,然后根据短文内容,指出能完成所给句子或回答所提问题的最佳答案。(每小题2分)

What makes a house a home? A home is a place of companionship with people in it who love each other, who are harmonious (和谐的) and closer with one another than with those in the workplace or with classmates at school. A home is a place that’s so magnetic that it’s difficult to leave. In a home there is love, sharing and appreciation, and the members help one another.

I have seen families on the street. But if they live, sleep, talk, and eat together, they are a family, even if they are poorly off. You don’t need a roof to make a home. The truly homeless are some of the rich people who build multi-million-dollar houses and are too busy to really live in them. The truly homeless are those who have turned their home into a hotel lobby. The parents work and the children misbehave. They don’t talk and eat together every day. They rarely see each other. The truly homeless people are those with babysitters, caretakers, gardeners and maids. However, people are unaware of this, as they are too busy making money outside the home that they don’t live in. This is another way of looking at the rich and the homeless. Who is to be pitied?

Control of the computer and the Internet is also important to make a house into a home. If the computer is on all the time, the house turns into an office, even if everyone is at home. Many homes these days are just offices. Human communication has stopped. The computer eats up all the time that one should be giving to others within the home. Using the computer moderately gives us time for play and communication, not with a screen, but with other people.

       A. How to make a house a home? B. What makes a house a home?

       C. Who are truly homeless?   D. What is a home for?

2 The purpose of the first paragraph is to tell us ____ .

       A. that where there is home there is love  B. how to have a happy home

       C. what people think a home is     D. the author’s concept of home

3 The underlined word “those” refers to ____ .

       A. people who build multi-million-dollar houses

       B. people who don’t spend time with the family

       C. people who have lost their family members

       D. homeless families living on the street in America

4Which of the following is FALSE according to the passage?

       A. Computers and the Internet are important for a happy home.

       B. A home is a place where you are willing to stay.

       C. Sometimes it’s the rich that should be pitied.

       D. Even the poorest people can have a happy home.

5 According to the passage, which is NOT mentioned as an element (要素) of a home?

       A. Communication.      B. Appreciation.     C. Kindness.    D. Companionship.

An environmental group ralled the Food Commission is unhappy and dixappointed beeause of the sale of bottled water form Japan. The water is angrily argues in public, has traveled 10,000“food miles”before it reaches Western customers.“transporting water halfway across the world is surely the extremely stupid use of fuel when there is plenty of water in the OK.”It is also worried that we are wasting our fuel by buying prauns(对虾)from Indonesia(7,000 food miles) and carrots from South Africe(5,900 food miles).

Counting the number of miles traveled done by a product is a strange way of trying to tell the true situation of the environmental damage done by an industry. Most food is transported around the world on container ships that are extremely energy efficient(高能效的). It should be noted that a ton of butter transported 25 miles in a truck product transported hundreds of miles by sea Besides ,the idea of “of miles”ignores the amount of fuel used in the production. It is possible to cut down your food miles by buying tomatoes grown in Britain rather than those grown in Ghana; the difference is that the British one will have been raised in heated greenhouses and the Ghanaian ones in the open sun.

What the idea of“food miles”does provide, however, is the chance to cut out Third World Countries from First World food markers. The number of miles traveled by our food should, as I see it, be regarded as a sign of the success of the global(全球的)trade system, not a sign of damage to the environment.

阅读下列短文,从所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。

The French branch of McDonald's has run ads that included a surprising suggestion: Kids shouldn't eat at McDonald's more than once a week.

The advertisements, quoting (引用) information from specialists, aim to show that “McDonald's meals are part of a balanced weekly diet,” said Euro RSCG, the agency that came up with the ads, which appeared this spring, mostly in French women's magazines.

Alongside quotes from specialists addressing fatness and diets for children, the ads described how McDonald's hamburgers are made of 100 percent real beef and cooked on a grill free of additional oil.

One ad placed in Femme Actuelle in April quoted a nutritionist (营养学家) who said, “There's no reason to have too much fast food, or visit McDonald's more than once a week.”

The McDonald's Corp., based in Oak Brook, Ill., said in a statement Wednesday that it “strongly disagreed” with the nutritionist quoted in the French advertisement.

“The vast majority of nutrition specialists say that McDonald's food can be and is a part of a healthy diet based on the sound nutrition principles of balance, variety and moderation (适度),” the statement said.

Since opening its first French branch in 1968, McDonald's has expanded continuously in France. More recently McDonald's has come under fire from antiglobalization protesters(抗议者), farmers' groups, and in Paris, striking workers.

In 1999, sheep farmer-turned-activist Jose Bove became a standard-bearer(执掌大旗的楷模) for the French anti-globalization movement when he led a group that searched a McDonald's thoroughly in southern France.
