Dear son,
The day that you see me old and I am already not in good health, have patience and try to understand me.
If I get dirty when eating, if I can not dress, have patience and remember the hours I   36   teaching it to you. If, when I speak to you, I   37  the same things thousand and one times, do not   38   me, listen to me. When you were small, I had to read to you thousand and one times the same story   39   you got to sleep. When I do not want to have a   40  , neither shame me nor scold me. Remember when I had to chase you with thousand excuses I   41  , in order that you wanted to bathe. When you see my   42   little about new technologies, give me the necessary time and do not look at me with your mocking(嘲弄) smile. I taught you   43   to do so many things: to eat good, to dress well, to confront life…. When at some moment I lose the memory or the   44  of our conversation, let me have the necessary time to remember, and if I cannot do it, do not become nervous, as the most important thing is not our conversation but surely to be with you and to have you   45   to me.
If ever I do not want to eat, do not force me. I know well   46   I need to and when not. When my   47   legs do not allow me to walk, give me your   48  , the same way I did when you gave your first   49  . And when someday I say to you that I do not want to   50   any more ---- that I want to rest forever, do not get ___51__. Someday you will understand.
Try to understand that my age is not lived but survived. Some day you will discover that, despite my mistakes, I always wanted the   52   thing for you and that I tried to prepare the way for you. You must not feel sad, angry or impotent(无可奈何) for seeing me   53   you. You must be next to me, try to understand me and to help me as I did it when you   54   living. Help me to walk, help me to end my way with love and  55  . I will pay you by a smile and by the immense love I have had always for you.
I love you, Son
Your father

Our children grew up on peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, although my husband and I sometimes sneak one late at night with a glass of milk. I believe that the success of this 31 lovedconcoction(混合物) lies not in the brand of peanut butter,  32  in the jelly. The right jelly  33  the palate, and homemade is the only choice.
My mother-in-law was the jelly maker in this family. This limited choice was a welcome   34  in the days of toddlers, siblings and puppies. All I did was to  35  baby food jars, which my mother-in-law would seal with wax(蜡) and  36  back home with us.  37  I wanted to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich , all I had to do was reach for one of little jars. Jelly making was just a way of 38   for my mother-in-law. She always did it, setting the 39  jelly on the shelves .
My father-in-law died several years ago and this past December, she also  40 . Among the things in the house to be divided by her children were the  41  canned goods.
The other day I reached my pantry(储物间) for jelly for a quick sandwich. Sitting all alone on the far side of the shelf was a small jar of grape jelly, whose lid was  42  in places.  43   on it were “GR” for grape and the year when the jelly was made.
As I picked up the jar, I suddenly realized something that I had  44  to see earlier. This was the last jar we would ever have from the  45 , loving hands . We hardly ever opened a jar of jelly at table without  46  about those thousands of little jars she had filled. It seems like such a small thing, and most days it was something that was  47   for granted.
No longer was it just a jar of jelly. It was the end of a family  48 . We have hundreds of pictures and many more memories that we expect to   49  the years and to pass on to our children. The jar of jelly won’t keep that long. It will either have to be eaten or  50  ...but not today.

Mobile phones are everywhere in big cities. It seems that   36  can survive without one. Mobile phones are a great   37  to stay connected with friends and family.   38  , it is important to remember that there are certain times   39  you should not be using your phone, especially as a student, during school.
__40  you are in class, you should not be sending your friends text messages   41 taking phone calls. Your classmates and teacher should not have to deal with this rude   42  . Aren’t you at school to learn?
In the United States, students would never be allowed to   43  their mobile phones during class. If you were to send or   44  a text message you would probably be kicked   45_ class. It is very disturbing to hear a lot of tones and ringing during   46 . There are many more rules for mobile phone use in America and it is to   47  respect for those around you.
As a teacher in China, I have to   48  students using mobile phones every day. I have told my class to   49  their phones, but many students do not listen. The   50  to be connected all the time seems to be more   51  than the desire to learn.
It’s easy to understand   52  it is so tempting(诱惑人的) to have your phone on during class. It seems so easy just to send a short text message; it’s not hurting anyone, is it? But you may actually be hurting   53  when you do this. Your teacher knows when you use your phone and may give you a   54  grade. Sending a text message also takes your attention away from what’s going on in class, you may   55  something important.

One afternoon I toured an art museum while waiting for my husband to finish a business meeting. I was looking forward to a quiet   21  of the splendid artwork.
A young   22  viewing the paintings ahead of me   23  nonstop between themselves. I watched them a moment and decided the lady was doing all the talking. I admired the man’s   24  for putting up with her   25  stream of words.   26  by their noise, I moved on.
I met them several times as I moved   27  the various rooms of art. Each time I heard her continuous flow of words, I moved away   28 .
I was standing at the counter of the museum gift shop making a   29  when the couple approached the   30 . Before they left, the man   31  into his pocket and pulled out a white object. He   32  it into a long stick and then   33  his way into the coatroom to get his wife’s jacket.
“He’s a   34  man,” the clerk at the counter said. “Most of us would give up if we were blinded at such a young age. During his recovery, he made a promise his life wouldn’t change. So, as before, he and his wife come in   35  there is a new art show.”
“But what does he get out of the art?” I asked. “He can’t see.”
“Can’t see! You’re   36 . He sees a lot. More than you and I do,” the clerk said. “His wife   37  each painting so he can see it in his head.”
I learned something about patience,   38  and love that day. I saw the patience of a young wife describing paintings to a person without   39  and the courage of a husband who would not   40  blindness to change his life. And I saw the love shared by two people as I watched this couple walk away, their arms intertwined.
