dangerous experience I have ever had.
On the morning of the excursion,I met with my friends for breakfast, with little conversation.I supposed
we were nervous about the day ahead of us.The coach then drove us from Cape Town to Dyer Island in
Gansbaii.
As soon as we got to our destination,we were quickly pushed into a boat.About 2 hours into the boat
we spotted our first shark. It was one of the world's deadliest predators(食肉动物)-a Great White shark
Our guide told us that we had to get into the water immediately.Without any formal preparation or
instruction,we put our thick wet suits on and jumped into the iron cage.
There I was in this tiny cage with 3 Great White sharks circling around me.I tried desperately to take
pictures with my underwater camera, not letting my hands and feet drift(漂)out of the cage.
When I took a breath, life above the water seemed chaotic(混乱的).But,I would drop back under
the water and life would seem to stop existing. And the sharks that always appeared frightening on TV or
in photographs actually appeared peaceful in person.
After an hour,I decided it was probably time for me to get out once the sharks started to become
really aggressive.I waited until the very last second I could, since I knew I would probably never do this
again.

查看习题详情和答案>>Bruce Jones thinks there is still a healthy thirst for exploration into underwater worlds on our own planet. After growing up with his grandfather who was in the marine construction business, Jones quickly got a feel for the water. He started diving at age 9 and, by the 1980s, began offering advice for those interested in the submarine business. By 1993, he was running his own company, U.S. Submarines, which designed and built submarines for resorts and individuals.
Jones plans to spend $40 million in building a hotel where the most expensive rooms will be 50 feet under the sea off Eleuthera Island in the Bahamas. Unlike the Jules Undersea Lodge — the only undersea hotel now, just off the coast of Key Largo, Fla. — guests at the Poseidon won't need to put on a wet suit to get to their rooms. They also won't need to worry about changing pressure levels since the rooms will be kept at above-surface pressure. Instead, they can move easily to their $1,500-a-night underwater rooms by escalator.
“I think there are a large number of people who would be interested,” said Jones, “including anyone who is looking for a different experience.”
Each room will feature strong windows that look out onto coral gardens. There will be controls in each room that guests can use to change the lighting of the underwater worlds outside their windows and to provide food for fish swimming by.
“By now I envisioned (展望) we'd have whole underwater cities,” Craig Cooper, the director for the Aquarius research station said. “It's about time some of these visions became reality.”

查看习题详情和答案>>A volcanic eruption in Iceland has sent ash across northern Europe.Airlines have stopped or changed the flights across the Atlantic Ocean, leaving hundreds of passengers stuck in airports.
Grimsvotn is one of the largest and most active volcanoes in Europe. What makes Grimsvotn different is that it lies under a huge glacier(冰川)of ice up to 12 maters thick. The hot volcano heats up the ice above it,which then forms a layer(层)of water between the glacier and the volcano This layer of water puts pressure on the volcano, keeping it stable,As the water flows out from under the glacier, the pressure lifts. The lava(岩浆) from the volcano then comes up to the surface. This is exactly what happened today.
Now,airlines have to make changes to their flights so as not to fly through the clouds of volcanic ash.According to KLM,one of Europe's biggest airlines, airplanes cannot go under the cloud or over it.Going through the cloud can result in ash getting stuck in the airplane's engines, causing damage to the plane.
The eruption has also caused problems for animals in Iceland. The volcano left ash and sharp.Glass-like rocks all over the countryside.Farmers are keeping their animals inside to stop them from eating ash- covered grass to the sharp object.
1.What makes Grimsvotn different from other volcanoes?
A.It is below ice. B.It lies under the sea.
