I chose to study after getting married.I have recently 1 my college degree. The last project before graduation was called “Smile”.

The class was asked to go out and 2 at three people and record their reactions.I am a very 3 person and always smile at everyone, so, I thought, this would be 4 .

My husband and I went to a 5 one March morning. We were standing in line, waiting to be 6 , when all of a sudden everyone around us began to back away, and then even my husband did that.A feeling of 7 filled me and I turned to see why they had 8 .

As I turned around I smelled a 9 “dirty body” smell, and there standing 10 me were two homeless men.As I looked down at the 11 gentleman, he was smiling. His beautiful blue eyes were full of 12 as he searched for acceptance and said, “Good day.”

I felt 13 for them and held my tears as I stood there with them. They only asked for one hamburger 14 that was all they could afford and they just wanted to find a warm place to stay. Then I really felt that I almost reached out and hugged the little man. That was when I 15 all the eyes there were set on me, 16 my every action.

I 17 two more breakfast meals and then walked toward the table that the men had chosen as a(n) 18 place.

I put the food on the table. He was very 19 , smiled with tears in his eyes, and said, “Thank you.” I answered, “Your smile is the best 20 for me.”

“Now ,”Mrs.Virginia DeView said, smiling, “we are going to discover our professions.”

The class seems to be greatly surprised. Our professions? We were only 13 and 14 years old! The teacher must be 1 .“Yes, you will all be searching for your future 2 .Each of you will have to 3 someone in your field, plus give an oral report.”

Each day in her class, Virginia DeView reminded us about this. Finally, I picked print journalism. This 4 I had to go to interview a true-blue newspaper reporter.I was extremely nervous.I sat down in front of him 5 able to speak. He looked at me and said, “Did you bring a pencil or pen?”

For the past 12 years, I’ve had the most satisfying reporting career, 15 stories from murders to airplane crashes and 16 choosing my strongest area. 17 I went to pick up my phone one day, an incredible wave of memories hit me and I realized that had it not been 18 Virginia DeView, I would not be sitting at that desk.

I get 19 all the time:“How did you pick journalism?”

“Well, you see, there was a teacher…”I just wish I could 20 her.

Teenagers at one German school are learning how to achieve happiness alongside other traditional subjects such as math and languages.

The class sit in a circle with their eyes shut and they count from one to ten:someone starts, the next voice comes from the far right, a third from the other side.

The aim of the game is to listen for an opportunity to shout out the number without clashing(冲突)with another voice or leaving a pause. On the first try, most of the young Germans try to be first, while a few are too shy to join in, but by the fifth time round, they develop a rhythm(节奏).The message:give other people space but also confidently claim your own. This is a requirement for social well-being(幸福).

The Willy Hellpach School in Heidelberg is the first in the nation to develop a happiness course. It is intended for students preparing for university entrance exams.

“The course isn't there to make you happy,” Ernst Fritz-Schubert, the school principal(校长), warned pupils, “but rather to help you discover the ways to become happy.”

Cooking a meal together is one of the class exercises.Improving body language under the guidance(指导)of two professional actresses is another.

The course is taught for three periods a week.Despite the happy subject, the pupils themselves insist it is no laughing matter.

“In the first period, we had to each say something positive about another member of the class and about ourselves. No laughing at people,” said Fanny, 17.

Research by the school shows it is not the first to start happiness classes:they also exist at some US universities, but are mainly based on positive thinking, using findings from studies of depression(郁闷).

“That would be too one-sided for us.We want to show how delicious food or exercise can help, too,” the principal said.
