I was only eight years old when the Second World War ended, but I can still remember something about the   36   celebrations in the small town where I lived on the day when the war in Europe ended. The annual marathon in my town usually took place in summer. My job was to   21   behind the runners in an ambulance   22    any of them needed medical attention.
