Of the three major beverages of the world — tea, coffee and cocoa — tea is consumed by the largest number of people. China is the homeland of tea. It is believed that China had tea-shrubs(茶树) as early as five thousand years ago. Tea from China, along with silk and porcelain, began to be known to the world over more than a thousand years ago and has been an important Chinese export. At present more than forty countries in the world grow tea and Asian countries produce 90% of the world’s total output. Chinese tea may be put into several categories according to the different methods by which it is processed(加工). Green tea is the variety which keeps the original colour of the tea leaves without fermentation(发酵) during the processing. This category consists mainly of Longjing of Zhejiang Province, Maofeng of Huangshan Mountain in Anhui Province and Biluochun produced in Jiangsu. Black tea, known as “red tea” (hong cha) is the category which is fermented before baking. It is a later variety developed on the basis of the green tea. The best brands of black tea are Qihong of Anhui, Dianhong of Yunnan, Suhong of Jiangsu, Chuanhong of Sichuan and Huhong of Hunan. Wulong tea is a variety half way between the green and the black tea, being made after partial fermentation. It is a specialty from the provinces on the southeast coast of China — Fujian, Guangdong and Taiwan. Scented tea(花茶) is made by mixing fragrant flowers in the tea leaves in the course of processing. The flowers commonly used for this purpose are jasmine(茉莉) and magnolia(玉兰) among others. Jasmine tea is a well-known favorite with the northerners of China and with a growing number of foreigners. 1. According to the passage, we know ______. A. It was getting dark and snow was coming down. Joe was driving home. He’d been unemployed since the factory closed. Most of his friends had left, but he stayed on. After all, he was born here.
Suddenly he saw a lady standing on the side of the road and pulled up. She was worried. No one had stopped to help her. Was he going to hurt her? He looked poor and hungry. Joe knew how she felt and said, “My name is Joe and I’m here to help you.” All she had was a flat tire, but for an old lady, that was bad enough. Joe changed the tire, but he got dirty and his hands were hurt. She wanted to pay Joe and said any amount would have been all right. Joe never thought twice about the money and there were plenty who had given him a hand in the past. He had lived his whole life that way. He told her that if she really wanted to pay him back, the next time she saw someone who needed help, she could give that person the assistance that they needed.
Later the lady went in a dingy-looking restaurant to grab a bite to eat. The cash register was like the telephone of an out-of-work actor----it didn’t ring much. The waitress, who was nearly eight months pregnant, brought a clean towel to her with a sweet smile. The old lady remembered Joe. After the waitress brought the change from a 100-dollar bill, she found the lady gone and something written on a piece of paper, “Someone once helped me out----the way I’m helping you. An English idiom says,“You can’t teach an old dog new tricks.” But scientists have discovered that isn’t true. Older people can learn, and they should,in order to keep their brain active. Now a new trend has begun in several states in the US that encourages learning. Adults can attend One Day University. They can spend a Saturday or Sunday hearing four 70-minute lectures. Each one is given by a top university professor. One of the original participants said,“It’s like a health club for the brain.” Also, universities like MIT have made all of their courses and lectures available online for free!Libraries offer learning programs too. With so much available, there is no excuse not to learn!
Learning is a habit. Don’t leave it behind after you leave school. On the website lifehack.org,author Scott Young mentions several things to help you.

Practice it. As you read,do something with what you’ve learned. Don’t just enjoy the mental exercise. Use the knowledge. If you read about painting, try it!
Make a “to learn” list. Compose a “to learn” list for yourself. Maybe you want to speak better English, play the piano,or cook French food. Whatever interests you,put it on your list and then make the time to do it.
Teach others. Whatever you learn, teach someone else. You’ll not only help others but also understand what you’ve learned.
