  It is becoming increasingly clear that there is a direct link between eating habits and health.Heart disease causes the loss of 180,000 lives in Britain every year.At least two million British people are believed to have heart problems.What can be done about this?

  Let us begin by looking first at nutrient needs:

  This table shows that there is not much difference between the nutrient and energy needs of adults and children over the age of five.Even though children are much smaller, they need large amounts of all nutrients because they are growing.In fact, they need more calcium and Vitamin D than adults, to ensure that their bones and teeth are strong.

  British eating habits are changing.There is a much greater variety of foods to choose from nowadays.Also, the population is realizing how choice of food can affect health.As a result, people are eating less fat, sugar and salt and more fiber-rich foods.This is undoubtedly doing a lot to reduce heart disease.For example, research in 1983 by the U.K.Department of Health and Social Security into children’s eating habits showed that:

  -30% ate too much fat;

  -many diets were too heavily dependent on chips, cakes and biscuits;

  -it has not been found out that any of the children were suffering for lack of these nutrients; children who were out of school at lunchtimes at cafés, fast food shops, etc.had lower intakes of many nutrients than other children.In particular girls were short of iron.

  To reduce the risk of heart disease, there are two major changes that are needed in the way people in Britain eat:

  1)the amount of fat eaten must be reduced;

  2)the amount of foods rich in fiber must be increased.If this is done, then the British people will be much healthier.

(2)

A.

(3)

What conclusion can be drawn from the nutrient table?

[  ]

A.

Adults need more nutrient and energy than children over the age of five.

B.

Adults and children above five years of age need roughly the same nutrient and energy.

C.

The male usually need more nutrient and energy than the female.

D.

Adults don’t need calcium and Vitamin because they have stopped growing.

       Do you feel so nervous in exams that you have trouble writing answers to questions that you knew just the night before?

   If so, you likely have a case of test anxiety.

   But, don't fear. By recognizing the problem, you are taking the first step towards overcoming it.

   Believe it or not, a touch of nervousness can sharpen your mind, allowing you to perform more quickly. This is because under stress, the body gives out the hormone adrenaline which prepares it for something important that will happen. However, too much anxiety can result in sleeplessness, loss of appetite before tests, and poor performance. Some people might feel hot or even sick.

   If you worry a lot or are a perfectionist, you are more likely to have trouble with test anxiety. Those who have prepared poorly for a test or have had negative experiences taking tests may also experience test anxiety.

   When you feel a storm of anxiety coming on, stop what you're doing and make your mind a blank. If possible, actually tell yourself to "STOP!" This will get your mind off the stress.

   Then think of being at a place of comfort and let your body relax. As you continue the test, find questions you know the answers to and answer them first. This will help gain your confidence.

   Talk to yourself using positive language. Make it a habit to replace each negative thought with a logical reason. For example: "I've studied hard and I know the material, so I'm                   ready to do the best I can." Another thing you can do is to learn to accept mistakes. In fact, they can be valuable learning opportunities.

   Last but not least, start test preparation early — three to five days ahead of the quiz or test. After all, good study habits and skills — for example, time management and note-taking — will give you the feeling that you are in control.

74. From the text, we know it is not true that ______.

A. test anxiety makes you fail in working out the problems that are really difficult

B. a little of test anxiety might be helpful to some students

C. some students can't sleep well before the test

D. some students failed in the test because of the anxiety
