The purpose of this book is to help business professionals or students prepare for an assignment in Germany. We surfed the web, looked through the literature and talked to a number of foreign professionals working in Germany. After lots of brainstorming, we developed a list of practical rules to help business professionals negotiate at a business meeting. This book is divided into three sections. The first section contains ten main behavior tips. The second section will provide you with a few guidelines on applying for a job in Germany, and the last few chapters contain tips on the more confusing aspects of German business culture, such as carrying out negotiations, networking and dealing with conflicts.
Because these tips can be helpful for both Germans and foreigners, we have written the book in both German and English. As a foreigner, you should take advantage of the dual(双重的) language aspect of the book, and refer to the dictionary to help you understand key terms. Finally, remember that cultural differences might seem difficult at first, but they are also what attract us to foreign cultures and essentially make doing business in foreign countries challenging and interesting.

Learning English can sometimes seem like a difficult thing to do—the grammar can be very confusing and spoken English seems to be changing all the time. If students are nervous about using English or worried about making mistakes, they won’t feel like practicing, and without practice they cannot make progress. General English courses aim to give students that confidence. To do this, schools have developed General English courses which combine a range of different teaching methods.
In class, teachers encourage students to work together so that they can practice new words and grammar. They always try and make this classwork interesting and fun. Many schools are equipped with language laboratories and libraries where students can work on their own with audio tapes, video and computers. And outside the classroom, the learning continues, where students are meeting together socially, visiting local attractions, or at home with a host family.

Some of the most popular General English courses are available during the summer holiday period. These are usually part time, and schools organize social activities for students in their free time. Europe's first major university department to promote research into government and public policy will open in Oxford under new plans.
In a hugely significant move, Oxford University will create a new school of government in 2012 following a £75 million donation by Leonard Blavatnik, the American industrialist and philanthropist(慈善家).The school is intended to train outstanding graduates from across the world in the skills and responsibilities of government.The move is being backed by world leaders including Nelson Mandela, Bill Clinton and Kofi Annan.
Andrew Hamilton, Oxford's vice - chancellor, said: "The school represents a huge milestone in Oxford's history.It will give tomorrow leaders the best of Oxford's traditional strengths alongside new and practical ways of understanding and meeting the challenges of good governance.
"The university has educated 26 British Prime Ministers and over 30 other world leaders, yet until how the major international schools of government have all been outside Europe, principally in the United States."
Under plans, the Blavatnik School of Government will provide a series of practical courses leading to a Master's degree.It will cover a range of subjects including the humanities, social sciences, law, science, technology, health, finance, energy and security policy.
Oxford said Mr Blavatnik's donation was one of the most generous in the university' s 900 year history The university itself will be investing an additional £26m in the school, as well as land in the Radcliffe Observatory Quarter, where the school will be located.
