Friendships are some of the most important relationships that we will ever have in our lives. But how to build a solid friendship? Here are five tips for you.

Tip 1. _____

True friendships can only be built in honesty. This is more than just telling the truth. Being real and open about who you are and your thoughts and feelings are a part of building a solid friendship. If your “friends” don’t even really know you, who are they really friends with?

Tip 2. Shared Experiences

As you build your friendship, you will share many experiences together. Some of these may be great adventures or hard times that the two of you go through together. These shared experiences are things that you will laugh about, talk about, and cry about no matter how much time passes.

Tip 3. Sacrificial(牺牲精神的)love

Love is the basis(基础)of all solid relationships. I am not referring to the emotion(情感) of love, but to the action of love. Love is what will cause a friend to get out of bed in the middle of the night to help another. Love is what will put aside someone’s own wants to make sure that their friend is alright.

Tip 4. Understanding

When a friendship is solid, it will be based on each other’s understanding. You may not agree with everything that a friend says or does, but you will be able to put yourself into his or her shoes to begin to understand. Offering understanding to a friend is very important, as it allows them to feel that they have someone in their corner that they can talk to and who will offer advice and suggestions, without having to worry that if they don’t always follow it, the friendship will be lost.

Tip 5. Acceptance

A solid friendship is one in which two people accept one another, faults and all, for just who they are. There is no having to build up false excuses, or hide away the “dark secrets” from one another. We accept each other as whole, complete, and totally unique people.

1.What’s the best title of Tip 1?

A. Introduction of yourself.             B. Telling the truth

C. Honesty                               D. True friendships

2.Which tip can remind us of an English proverb “Love me, love my dog”?

A. Tip 2.           B. Tip 3.           C. Tip 4.           D. Tip 5.

3.What’s the meaning of the underlined part “put yourself into his or her shoes” in Tip 4?

A. Exchange your shoes with his or hers. B. Try on his or her shoes.

C. Put yourself in his or her position.  D. Force yourself.

4.What’s the best title of the whole passage?

BEIJING, Sep. 10 (Xinhuanet) -- The extra-large model baby in the Spain Pavilion(馆) was “conceived”(构思)by a Spanish filmmaker, Shi Yingying reports.

Visitors admiring the 6.5-meter-high giant baby, Miguelin, in the Spain Pavilion may be surprised to realize that it was not the concept of a famous designer or a group of groundbreaking engineers. It came from one filmmaker’s interpretation of the meaning of “Better City, Better Life”.

Spanish director Isabel Coixet developed the idea after being asked to contribute to Expo 2010 Shanghai.

“They asked me to do something to tell the Chinese audience about Spain in the future and the first thing jumping to my mind was a baby,” said Coixet. “If we really fight to have better cars, better cities and better lives, it’s for them - for our children.”

Despite her Spanish heritage, Coixet doesn’t focus on making Spanish films or using Spain as the setting. Fans of her various award-winning films, including My Life Without Me, The Secret Life of Words and Elegy, may not even be aware of Coixet’s Spanish background.

“The borders between countries are just illusion(假象),” said Coixet. “Some directors feel really comfortable telling stories that belong to their territory.”

But Coixt feels the opposite: “I'm more comfortable outside my country. It gives me a strange freedom.”

One of her favorite things about being a director is the freedom. “The thing is that the world is wide and this freedom lets you make films everywhere,” she said.

Coixet’s curiosity took her latest exploration and movie work to Japan. In the movie Map of the Sound of Tokyo, the Catalan actor Sergi Lopez is the owner of a wine shop in Tokyo, and Japanese actress Rinko Kikuchi is a young woman who works both as a fishmonger and as a hired killer.

The conflict of the two people's very different worlds and the tango-like relationship they develop is just one representation of what Coixet is able to produce by mixing cultures.

While she doesn’t know if she will shoot a film in Shanghai, two things have caught her attention: Shanghainese women and crickets(蟋蟀).

After just arriving in the city, she was surprised by the mix of old Chinese culture in a booming chief city “Behind the skyscrapers, there is a flower and bird market with heaps of crickets and birdcages in,” she said. “I'm totally amazed with the city.”

The huge baby represents the idea that ______________.

  A. our children are the new generation full of imagination.

  B. our children will develop the friendship between China and Spain.

  C. our children are our future.

  D. our children will understand the meaning of “better city, better life”.

We learn from the passage that Coixet’s award-winning films were set ____________.

  A. only in Spain.                              B. only in Japan.

  C. mainly in the countries outside Spain.      D. mainly in the countries within Europe.

According to Isabel Coixet, a flower and bird market behind the high rises_______________.

  A. shows people in Shanghai are living a rich life spiritually and materially.

  B. reflects prosperity of the market.

  C. indicates the Chinese people are leading a rich life.

  D. represents the traditional culture of China.

From the passage we can learn that ____________.

  A. Isabel Coixet is dissatisfied with the design of the extra-large model baby.

  B. A mix of different cultures is reflected in Isabel Coixet’s films.

  C. Isabel Coixet feels less comfortable while making films all over the world.

  D. Isabel Coixet designed the huge baby according to the requirement of a group of engineers.

In any family with more than one child, chidren seem to naturally compete for their parents’ love and attention. Parents say they love every child equally. But is that true?

Susan, founder of a consulting firm in Chicago, interviewed 216 women and found that even though none of her questions asked directly about a parent favoring one child over another, about two-thirds of the women said there was a favored child. And they also remembered their experience when they were young. One of the women said, “My mother always liked my brother better, and he got to go to summer camp in 1968 and I didn’t.”

Plumez, who interviewed parents with both biological children and adoptive children for an adoption book in 2008, found that what matters most is whether your temperaments(性情) are pleasing. “In some cases, parents would say they felt closer to their adopted children,” she says, “Some parents like the children with characters similar to theirs. Two people who are shy and withdrawn might get along well, unless the shy parent doesn’t like that aspect of themselves and they try to push the naturally withdrawn child to be more extroverted.”

It could be a result of gender, birth order or how easy or difficult a child’s temperament may be, but a parent’s different treatment has far-reaching effects. Students have found that less-favored children may suffer emotionally, with decreased self-esteem and behavioral problems in childhood. Favoritism is a reason for the next generation not to like each other.

Experts say it is not realistic to say everyone should be treated equally, because no two people are the same and they relate differently to others.

“It does not mean that parent loves or likes one child more. It has to do with which one of them is independent,” says psychologist Laurie Kramer of the University of Illinois.

The study carried out by Susan shows that ______.

       A. showing favoritism is common in many families

       B. most mothers like their sons better than their daughters

       C. only two-thirds of the women interviewed have more than a child

       D. it is a favoritism that leads to absence of harmony in most families

The underlined word “extroverted” in the third paragraph means _______.

       A. independent              B. outgoing           C. clever               D. brave

What can we infer from the passage?

       A. Favoritism is not beneficial to the development of children

       B. Parents’ favoritism to a certain child can’t be avoided in families

       C. Parents may be favoring one of their children and don’t realize it

       D. People are very much shaped by how they were treated by their parents

What is the best title for the passage?

       A. Parents’ favoritism can affect children deeply

       B. Why do parents show favoritism to children?

       C. Parents should give attention to all their children

       D. Building a harmonious family is important to children
