Louis Kahn is considered one of the most important American architect of the 20th century, who helped define(定义)modern architecture.

Kahn showed excellence as all artist at an early age.He later went to the University of Pennsylvania and studied architecture full time.

Louis Kahn Architecture is the art and science of designing and building structures. He was very interested in the look and feel of the materials he used.He used brick and concrete in new and special ways.Kahn also liked natural light to enter his buildings through interesting kinds of windows and openings.Kahn’s work can also be identified by his creative use of geometric shapes.

Many of his buildings use squares, circles and triangles.Louis Kahn’s buildings have many influences. Some experts say his trip to Rome in 1951 influenced him the most.He also traveled through other parts of Italy, Greece and Egypt. There,he saw the ancient Greek and Roman ruins that influenced him to develop an architecture that combines both modem and ancient designs.

Kahn’s buildings share a common solidity and heaviness. They are very different from the works of other famous architects of the period, who preferred light and airy buildings.Their weightless—looking structures were mostly made of glass and metal while Kahn used stone and concrete. Many of his structures look more ancient than modern.

Kahn’s first important project was the Yale Art Gallery. The outside of the building is very simple. The inside of the gallery shows Kahn’s great artistic sense. Its completion represented an important step in Kahn's professional life.

Though being a successful architect, Kahn was not a very good businessman. He would change his designs many times. This would make each project take a great deal of time and cost more money. The majority of the projects he designed were never built. Also,he did.not like to compromise his design ideas to satisfy a buyer’s wishes. For this reason and others, Kahn did not make many buildings. In fact, when Kahn died,he was in great debt. This is especially unusual since he was considered one of the most important architects in the world.

One Thursday, things really came to a head.My husband was heading out to the gym, just thinking that I had nothing to do but watch the twins. My older boys were making plans with their friends without bothering me and they were expecting me to drive them there. The twins, being young, wanted my undivided attention.Even my customers seemed to be demanding that day. They sounded not satisfied with the products and wanted to cut down the prices more.Nobody bothered to ask if I might have plans of my own.But the truth was, I seldom did have any plans for myself, and everyone knew it.     From that point on,I decided that Fridays would be mine,at least for a couple of hours. Some Fridays, I head for the beach with a good book.Other Fridays, I go shopping.I really look forward to my Fridays after a long week of caring for my family.

By forcing myself to slow down and put the needs of my family out of my mind, I feel closer to myself.I’m not completely responsible for caring for my family.I don’t need to do it all myself. I just need to remember to spare some time to be with myself.

Do you love holidays, but hate the increase in weight that follows? You are not alone. Holidays are times for splendid meals and celebrating, especially with the traditional cultural foods.

With proper planning, though, it is possible to maintain normal weight during the holidays. The idea is to enjoy the holidays and think in terms of moderation (节制). Whether it is celebrating at the office party or sitting down for the traditional family dinner, approach eating as a time for tasting or sampling a variety of foods. Here are some tips to carry you through the round of celebrations and your social calendar without feeling having done wrong.

Set realistic goals. Unless you have special dietary needs there are no forbidden foods. Don't turn down the foods you enjoy, but be sensible.

Before you leave home, have a small, low - fat meal or snake. This can help you to avoid eating or drinking much. Use as mall, luncheon-size plate and avoid the large ones that may encourage you to “load up”. You should be most comfortable eating an amount of food about the size of your fist. Once you have had your “tasting” serving, move away from the dining room. Doing so will make it easy to stop yourself eating constantly at the sight of food.

Eat slowly and fill up beforehand with clear soup and raw fruit or vegetables and fruit in a yogurt dressing rather that cream and cheese sauces. You can also frink a large glass of water before you eat to help you feel full.

If you have a sweet tooth, try mints, hard candies, and fruits. These don't have the fat content of creamy desserts and chocolate.

Avoid high - fat foods. Dishes that look oily or creamy may have a generous amount of fat. Choose lean meats. Fill your plate with salad and green vegetables.

Don’t let exercise take a break during the holidays. A 20-minute walk after sa meal can help burn off extra calories.

C.the situation mentioned above is common among many people
