第一节:阅读下列短文, 从每题所给的四个选项 (A、B、C和D) 中, 选出最佳选项。

Being interested in a theme park since the time that I was a child, I have learned a thing or two over the years about packing for a day of fun. A trip to a theme park is always a adventure, but if you’re not prepared, your day of fun could easily turn into a tiny little nightmare(噩梦). It is important to pack long sleeved(带袖的) shirts or jackets for all members of your family. I is also a good idea to pack an extra pair of socks for each member of the family, especially the children, as those wonderful water rides can be fun, but wet socks that won’t dry aren’t so much fun.

You don’t want to pack too much food, as you will probably want to experience at least some of the food offered at the theme park of your choice(that’s half of the fun), but it’s always a good idea to bring some energy increasing snacks, such as fruit, trail mix, etc. This can mean the difference between spending a lot of money on snacks or a little money on one or two good meals.

Theme parks, while fun and exciting, can wear a person out, especially a child, so it’s important to keep hydrated(含水的). I would suggest packing one bottle of water per person, and possibly a couple of cans of soda or bottles of juice as well.

It’s a good idea to have at least two cell phones or even a set of “walkie-talkies” in the event that your family gets, separated in the park. It’s a good idea to give one of these things to the children and one to the parents and make sure that each of them knows how to use it. This could be the difference between trouble and a happy ending,

1.You should get well prepared before going to a theme park__________.

  A. because the trip always costs much money

B.because there are always too many people in a theme park.

C. so as not to suffer from bad dreams when going back

D.so as to cut down your trip expenses and have more fun

2.From the passage, we can know_______________.

A.the author was fond of visiting theme parks when he was a child

B.wearing wet socks in a theme park will bring children much fun

C.it is terrible to have a taste of the food offered in a theme park.

D. we’d better bring enough food, clothing and water when going to a theme park

3.What does th underlined part”walkie-talkies” in the last paragraph probably refer to?

  A. A kind of transportation tool           B.A kind of musical instrument

C.A kind of CDplayer                  D.A kind of phone

4.How many types of things does the author advise us to pack for day trips to a theme park?

  A Three         B.Five      C.Six      D. Eight

The school has excellent hotels and guest houses nearby for parents who are dropping off or collecting their children from the school.

Tuesday was the eighth day of the 12 th month on the Chinese lunar calendar. I first became aware of the day as a traditional festival called laba, or the eighth day of the winter month – when I was working in a factory 30 years ago.

At lunch time, some elder co-workers opened their lunch boxes, and out came the sweet smell of well-cooked rice porridge mixed with beans, nuts and dates(枣)and they talked excitedly. Then, I wondered why there should be such an unnecessary excitement over the  laba festival. Growing up during the “cultural revolution” (1966-1976), when almost all traditional things were considered out-of-date,I had scarcely become aware of most of the traditional festivals.

I really started to value and celebrate these traditional festivals when I began to write about  Chinese culture. It is really encouraging that, despite the dramatic changes and modernization that our country has experienced over the past three decades, people have come to treasure many of our traditions more. Some people may have a complaint against the extreme commercialization(商业化)of these traditional festivals, but I believe the business promotions have at least worked to increase people’s awareness.

Most of the traditional Chinese festivals are celebrated with feasts. No wonder that on Tuesday a lot of people were buying rice, nuts, dry fruit, and beans from supermarkets and stores. A few thousand went to the Yonghegong Lama Temple to make prays for peace and happiness.

Now that we have celebrated laba festival,we are now looking forward to the Lunar New Year, when we are supposed to have a lot more feasts. In fact, it is reported that almost all popular restaurants have been booked out for the Lunar New Year Eve dinner in major cities across the country.

1.As a whole, the passage is mainly organized by_________.

    A.space               B.examples          C.time                 D.comparison

2.What is the writer’s attitude toward Chinese Festivals?

A.He takes them seriously all the time.

B.He values them more than before.

C.He expects only the Lunar New Year.

D.He thinks Chinese Festival are too commercialized.

3.The common ways to celebrate traditional Chinese festivals in the passage are to________.

① stop working in the factory               ② enjoy some special delicious food

③ have feasts with the family or friends     ④ pray for peace in temples

⑤ buy rice, nuts, fruits and beans         ⑥ write about Chinese culture

       A.①③⑤            B.②⑤⑥             C.①④⑥               D.②③④

4.From the last paragraph it can be inferred that now_________.

A.people are eager to show their richer life

B.people have become tired of laba festival

C.people are living a better life than before

D.people are always active in celebrating festivals

Believe it or not, America’s favorite snack food is the potato chip. There is a story behind how it was first made. One might think that somewhere a genius thought up the first potato chips, but it didn’t happen that way.Picture an elegant restaurant in Saratoga Springs, New York, in 1853.The Moon Lake Restaurant’s menu included French-fried potatoes, a popular food recipe brought back from France by Thomas Jefferson. These were thickly cut potatoes, fried until golden brown and crisp on the outside. One evening a guest in the dining hall felt that his potatoes were too thick and sent them back to the kitchen. The cook sliced some potatoes thinner than before and prepared them for the complaining guest. He was still not satisfied and sent them back again! By this time the cook was very angry and decided to do exactly what the dinner guest wanted:slice the potatoes as thin as possible. Then they would be so crisp that the diner wouldn’t be able to use his fork to eat them. When the paper-thin browned potatoes arrived, the diner was pleased. He was so happy with them that other guests started ordering the new potatoes. The cook’s plan to stop the dinner guest complaining didn’t turn out as expected.Soon Saratoga Chips appeared on the menu and became so popular that people wanted to take some home. The restaurant started selling small packages of the potato chips.A few years later, they were sold all over the U.S.But because the potatoes had to be peeled by hand, it was a time-consuming job and potato chips were often out of stock. In the 1920s, a mechanical potato peeler was invented and soon they were potato chips in abundance. They gradually spread all over the world and have remained popular ever since.

A.potatoes could be peeled by machines

B.planned to sell potato chips everywhere

C.wanted to silence a complaining diner

D.was pleased that other guests liked the chips

3.Potato chips have been popular in the US

       A.for more than 200 years                       B.every since 1920

C.for less than 100 years                         D.since the 19 th century
